Fournette’s illuminating power goes far beyond the game and it’s one reason many of us media types are openly rooting for him to succeed. No one's going to question your allegiance if you watch SEC Network on Saturday nights more than you should this season. He drew interest from major college coaches as a pre-teen. Sports Illustrated appropriately labeled him ‘The Pride of New Orleans’ at 19. Adrian Peterson comparisons ran rampant before his first collegiate carry. It’s fair to say the expectations were lofty for Fournette and not surprisingly, they’ve been surpassed. But you wouldn’t know it, at least not from him.

I find the contrast between Simmons and Fournette really interesting. Both knew they would be top players in the world by the time they hit puberty. Completely different paths though, and it seems like they have completely different attitudes. Of course, to at least a degree, Leonard is posturing; but you have to give him credit that he has very rarely broken character. Perhaps the worst thing he has done publicly is the Heisman pose against that HS team we played...if that is your biggest black mark as a college kid, I think you get a pass

Here's to Fournette having a long and healthy career. The sky is the limit for him, he has the skills and attitude to be one of the best to ever put on pads

You have to give Miles some credit in this. He consistently finds guys with good character and holds them to high standards. When they mess up he gives them second chances but knows when enough is enough.

What did Simmons do? Did I miss something?

yes, I realize that Fournette HAS to stay 3 years and Ben only has to stay 1 year.

Unless we're talking directly to Ben, all we can do is OBSERVE what we see to form opinions.

Do you really think Ben gave 100% effort, both physically and emotionally, all year?
Do you really think he cared about winning?
Do you really think he cared about this team?
Do you really think he cared about LSU?

In my opinion, the answer to each question is NO. And I sure didn't like the way he waited about one minute after our horrific loss to A&M to quit school and leave town.

Fournette is NOT humble. Humble people do not have their very own hand signal, nor do they strike Heisman poses. No, Fournette is extremely cocky. But he has enough sense to realize that pretending to be humble is going to make a ton of money for him. I admire him for his sense and his self-discipline. But humility? Don't make me laugh.

I tend to agree with this. The Heisman pose was ridiculous, and I admit I had a lot of trouble getting past that. And the entire Buga Nation thing, and the hand signal, is also a bit much.

As with any player - just play the game and let the results speak for themselves. If you're a stud, everyone will see it on the field. No need for all the other stuff.

Now, all that being said, I do like the way Fournette has acted since the Heisman thing. Maybe it's all carefully-crafted, but regardless, he seems to love playing, loves the team, and loves LSU.

If there is one person that has every right to be cocky it would be Leonard Fournette. This is a guy that has lived up to every ounce of the hype he had coming in. I don't think he pretends to be humble. I think he is very comfortable in his own skin and very confident in himself.

There's a difference between having confidence and passion and being cocky.

Left town? I saw him on TV taking pictures with kids at one of this weekend's LSU baseball games. Yeah, he apparently doesn't care about kids either.

For him to accomplish what he did while not caring about anything, if he ever applies himself he will be the greatest basketball player to ever walk the face of the earth.

On March 21, it was reported that he quit school and was moving to Phoenix. Now maybe that's wrong, but that's what I was basing my comments on.

"Ben Simmons has withdrawn from school officially and is moving to Phoenix until the NBA Draft, source tells @SNYtv"

nope, nobody should be cocky. Cockiness is conceit and arrogance - not a good way to be, regardless of how successful you are.

Confident? Sure. But no need to be cocky.

PP7 threw a Heisman pose around, and he's one of the best LSU ambassadors this school could ask for. People do silly crap. Get over yourself.

I think that counts for a lot. Self-awareness will take an athlete as far as he wants to go.

Relative to other athletes with extraordinary talent, I believe he is humble. We've seen far too many great athletes that simply can't handle success, and that doesn't seem to be the case with LF.

If we don't win at least the West while Fournette is here it's going to be a damn shame.

Fair enough. But grant that none of those is a synonym for "humble".

I didn't like the Peterson pose either (or the Desmond Howard pose, or any freaking pose). But please, Fournette did the pose after a meaningless TD against a high school team. If I recall, Peterson had just run back a punt for a TD against West Virginia on national TV. Still, I hated the pose, but at Peterson didn't something fairly spectacular. Fournette ran off tackle.

Now just because someone does a Heisman pose doesn't mean they're a terrible person and I hate them forever. It's just not a good thing, in my opinion.
