Second, I think JL played pretty well, but certainly not perfectly. I think all of his throws were balls that could have been caught. A couple were broken up by good plays by the Oregon defense, and a couple were drops by the receivers.

That is much more acceptable than saying the incompletions "should" have been caught. There were a couple maybe even a few the should have been caught but saying that most or all of incompletions "should" have been caught is reaching to make his look better than he did.

Zero INTs does not merit a D+.

Plus, this is just stupid.

Why would a TE not catching the ball affect the QBs play?

Yeah let's not do that, but by all means make him out to look worse than he did - such as, giving him a horrible grade on the game.

Dude, Alleman kicked a 44 yard field goal to start and added a 32 yarder, and went 4/5 on PAT. I would like to see a little longer kickoffs, but thought the 1st time starter did a great job in a much hyped game.

this is based only on what I saw from the upper reaches of Jerry World. Admittedly could change after I watch replay tomorrow.

QB: C+. Did not turn the ball over, hit some key passes, and managed the game well. I even considered a B- grade here. Stats were poor but I think he played better somewhat than his stats and he certainly could have benefitted from a few more first down pass calls, fewer drops, and 40 yards on the called back completion to Beckham (which was an overthrow). Lee is going to be asked to do more in some games later this season, but he did what was needed in this one.

RB: A- Only the fumble and what appeared to be a little bit spotty pass protection prevented an A. (I did not think the the RB's looked quite as dominant as the OP, and I hold back A+'s).

WR: C- - Did not see much in the way of separation on many plays and too many drops. I look for this unit to have much better days.

OL: A. Outstanding game. I considered an A+ but didn't see quite that level of dominance.

DL: A+. DL looked beastly.

LB: B. Lots of speed and some sure tackling.

DB: A+ - Like the OP, I do not fault them for the meaningless yards in the 4th. This bunch is good.

ST: A- - This is a very high grade for a team that didn't return all that well, missed a FG, and shanked a punt. But there were so many excellent plays.

Coaches: A. 'Nuff said.

Giving his perfomance a "C" grade would be saying it was average when it truly was not. A lot of the praise is coming just because LSU had another starting QB not named JJ.

You have to leave room for improvement and we certainly have a lot of room for improvement at the QB position.

N.O. via West-Cal,

Nice post. I respect your argument. The only reason I disagree with the QB grade is what grade will be given to a 250+ pass yards, 3 TD, 1 or less INT's performance? B- would be saying this perfomance was close that.

qb d+

wr d+

so the qb gets the same grade as the wr. if the wr catches the ball the qb gets a higher grade and if he drops the ball the qb gets the same grade? that makes no sense.

qb was c+, the only thing he can control is sacks, which he had one, int's, which he had zero, fumbles, which he had zero and putting the ball in a position where the wr's could catch it, which he did over 60% of the throws.

he had 3-4 bad throws. however, with all the games i watched, it appears we are the only team i saw who has wr's who have to have the ball perfectly placed to make catches. even oregon's wr's caught balls behind them, low, high, ect.

I'm speechless. Probably a B-, no worse than a C+. Lee managed the game very well - no clock issues, no offensive procedure issues, no problems with the exchanges - the 1 iffy shotgun snap notwithstanding, Lee did all of the "non-passing" QB tasks at an A level grade.

His passing was good (not great). He threw a few bad passes, and he had some very catchable passes dropped. Overall, for what he was asked to do, he did well.

RB: A

Agree

WR: D+

Probably a little low - lots of drops, but, again, for what they were asked to do, something in the C range.

quote:

OL: A+

At least an A. Run blocking a little better than pass blocking. Not sure if an A +, but definitely an A.

DL: A+

We won the game right there.

quote:

LB: B-

Yeah, something in that range.

quote:

DB: A+

Tough for me, because I feel they can execute even better and I had lots of high expectations. Having said that, I'm not ruling out this unit as one of the best ever.

quote:

ST: A-

Definitely a strength, maybe even an A - agree it was a dominant performance, but for some miscues.

quote:

Coaches: A+

Particularly with all of the distractions, as well as facing Oregon's unconventional offense. Our coaches take too much grief for stuff outside of their control. They should get props for this game - perhaps the best coaching performance of the Miles era, at least on par with the bowls against Miami, Notre Dame and tOSU.

" QB: D+" ????

Seriously, some of you people are just complete F***ing morons. Given, at least 5 of his 22 pass attempts were thrown poorly, his other 6 were either spot on the money, or at least catch-able. If all of those drop passes would have been caught, he wouldve been 15 for 22 for about 190 yards with 2 Td's and 0 interceptions.
That's a game manager. That's all we are asking hiim to do.

How about you learn about the game first, then come back and post something knowledgeable.

He deserves at the lowest a "C+ or B-"

I think this is stretching it a bit.

He has two legit drops.

I agree that he threw some catchable balls, but that doesn't make them drops.

And the pass to Beckham in the endzone was underthrown. Beckham had his guy beat and had to wait on the ball. While not a terrible pass, that's on Lee, not Beckham.

All in all, a "C" is a deserved grade - not terrible, not good.

I'm okay with this. If Alleman kicks high and to the ten yard line, our coverage team is usually there to meet the receiver.
