Been a Tiger since 1967, My first game. Just so you know. Watched all of them since then. The thing that really bugs me is how these gimmick teams get so much praise for their "great offense, 50 or 60 points a game". I'm so tired of watching Baylor, TCU, Oklahoma ST., Oregon and all the gimmick teams play suck defenses. When's the last time they won a championship?? Never. We beat Oregon, TCO West Virginia.
TCU: Opponents Faced Total Defense:
MINN: 25
SMU. 120
Texas T 126
Texas. 103
K State 83
ISU. 96
WV. 95
648 total % 7 games= 92.5% worst defenses played. Only 7.5,% better
Baylor:
SMU. 120
Rice. 108
TT. 126
Kansas 127
WV. 95
Iowa St 96
K State 83
755 % 7= 107.8= 84.6% worst defenses played. There are only 128 teams in FBS. They can't complain about their SOS. I'm proud to be in the SEC. We play real football!

A spread is not a spread is not a spread.

That's like saying Michigan State and LSU run similar offenses

Agree with you but it's not Gimmick Football:

It's Foot-ket Ball with the key player being a pointguard-back.

Actually it's not. They are both read option offense, inside zone is a major staple of both offenses and in recent years Urban Meyer has worked in the no-huddle aspect.

Urban has worked much more zone blocking, zone run into the offense the last couple years at Ohio State much like Oregon's.

Don't mistake a difference in talent level with a difference in offensive scheme.

helpful article discussing this very topic

My point is, they play SUCK defenses. When they play a great SEC defense, they are stuffed. They almost always get shut down. Defense wins championships. I still believe that.

That's my point. Urban Meyer knows what he has to do to win a championship because he's been in the SEC. He has a defense.

There is nothing gimmicky about what TCU does offensively.

You don't understand, any new offense will be called gimmicky by some folk. Especially if that offense is successful.

What's gonna suck is when LF7 gets robbed of his Heisman by some QB with big numbers that runs a gimmick offense. Fournette is the best running back in a generation and a heck of a young man, but they'll give the award to another QB with big numbers. Meh.
