I've always thought and said Danielson was pretty sharp (unlike Verne). He has a pretty level headed take on things:

Danielson article from The Advocate/Tiger Tracks

Basically he says he likes Les and Les is a coach he'd like his son to play for. But that the SEC is a different animal and Les' inability to get and develop a quarterback won't fly in this conference.

He also said he thinks that if he wanted, Les could get another job within 2 hours of being fired. Sounds like he was talking about middle tier Big 10 and Big 12 schools.

I think the most insightful thing he said was that SEC recruiters would "destroy" LSU if they kept Les without a "vote of confidence" by which I think he means a long term commitment not a year to year situation.

Danielson is dead on. At this point, it's in everyone's best interest (including Les) to move forward and get a fresh start.

and that wouldn't change next year under Miles.

In some ways true, but I think it is too simplistic of a view of what LSU's condition is right now. Everyone wants to say we are just a QB away, but LSU is not a QB away from a title.

They have massive OL issues, a record setting bad defense, and special teams that everyone thinks turned the corner on a horrible special teams for Ole Miss.

I think Les could be successful (bring a mid-tier program up a bit in another conference), but he is no longer an elite coach in any way shape or form.

I think this needs to be expounded on more.

Bottom line with QB play at ANY level: championship teams don't win championships by minimizing the damage their qb's make.

The QB must make plays, critical plays, at critical points of a ball game. That does not mean they have to be the studliest QB out there, but they must affect a game in a positive manner at some point in the game to win a championship.

You can look at every championship ever won and see that as fact.

Whether the QB is Tom Brady or Steve Young or Trent Dilfer or Doug Williams or Matt Flynn or Tim Tebow or Vince Young - at EVERY level.

A QB must be trusted to a point to make plays needed to win. Never has there been a championship won by a QB that just had a non-negative effect on the game.

I'll give Danielson some juice and he certainly has good street cred, but on the QB thing, Les recruited some damn good QB's out of high school that have not panned out.

He HAD to dismiss Perrilloux from the team, the dude was crime spree waiting to happen.

Zach Lee got offered close to 2 million to play MLB...who would not take that?

This all took place between 2008 and 2011 and somehow in 2010 and 2011 he had one of the better teams in all of college football. Remember, coming out of high school, Jordan Jefferson was a 4 star recruit, Jared Lee was a 4 star recruit, Zach Mettenberger was the most coveted JUCO QB when he came out. Anthony Jennings was a 4 star recruit and considered one of the top 6 dual threat QB's in the country and Brandon Harris was huge as well. Let's not forget Shepard as well.

He can recruit them, he just has a problem developing them, no debate.

He's certainly right about recruiting - all the leaks and current poisoning of the waters has made it now impossible to survive. I've been a supporter of CLM however, any chance of success at this juncture are nil. Uncertainty at the top is fatal to recruiting top athletes so, the ship for CLM has sailed.

We've already lost a highly regarded QB recruit and I'm fairly certain we've lost a local 5* as well although, he's not announced. Best to hope for now is a high quality HC replacement named quickly. All the negativity must be dampened and as much as possible of the recruiting class salvaged.

This is on Les, and anyone trying to excuse the situation based on Lee's decision is naive. It was known the guy could go high in the draft and he was the only QB they recruited that year knowing their QB situation. That was stupid on Les' part.

Just like in 2006, not taking a QB, leaving Lee and Hatch as the alternatives for Perrilloux.

Les screwed up and people try to excuse it. Again after the Lee and Jefferson, if not for Mettenberger, LSU wouldn've been starting a Freshman again.

Miles could probably get the Illinois or Maryland or Minnesota job. Actually, the Minnesota job they play a similar smash mouth style of football with decent defense.

I'm pretty sure that Franks was gone before the losing streak started. He stated as much himself. He's leaving because he feels Florida is a better place for him (likely earlier playing time and better coaching as a QB).

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense - how does he even know who would be coaching him as a QB at LSU at this point? It could be the best QB coach in the universe depending on the hire.

I think he just sees that LSU at the present looks kind of like a mess.
