we need to introduce Huey Lewis & The News' Heart of Rock N Roll into the pregame because it also mentions Baton Rouge

Callin BR is the lamest and cheesiest thing associated with an LSU game. It's a "tradition" that should have never been started and should have been put to rest years ago. Can only imagine what the players think of this corny arse song and it makes us look like bigger rednecks than we already are.

Just a terrible, terrible song especially for a pregame atmosphere

Dude, I am with you, but we are in the minority. I hated this song long before it ever became associated with pregame at LSU football games.

Our world would have been a much better place if Garth had named that song "Calling Chattanooga" or "Calling Birmingham", but he didn't and we are stuck with it. When that crap blares out of the speakers in Tiger Stadium, I usually reserve that time to go take my final pre-game leak.

But we won't be out-rednecked by Alabama. At Bryant-Denny Cathedral, they blare some country song by the group "Alabama" toward the end of the 3rd quarter and the whole place goes ape-shite crazy, singing along and waving their crimson pom-poms. So at least we aren't the only ones...

yeah but imagine this....

quote:

They say the heart of rock and roll is still beating
And from what I've seen I believe 'em
Now the old boy may be barely breathing
But the heart of rock and roll, heart of rock and roll is still beating

DC, San Antone and the Liberty Town, Boston and Baton Rouge

we can all just lose our minds when he says that, maybe even throw in some LSU chants. I already have goosebumps thinking about it.

I bet you are the dude that either

a) Doesn't go to games at all, because it's better to watch from your tv

or

b) Leaves early to beat the traffic, no matter the score of the game. (shite, you are probably the person who leaves BEFORE the "people who leave early to beat the traffic," just to beat their traffic."

Sweet story but that song Bama plays is actually about Tennessee which I find hilarious.

Somewhere out there there is a color picture of Garth Brooks in a LSU jersey from the 1997 concert at the PMAC. I believe it was a #7 Rondell Mealey jersey

Interesting that you blame Garth Brooks considering He wasn't the original artist to perform this song and had nothing to do with the title or lyrics of it.

He probably wants no song. The band isn't playing at the time because it's pregame time, so that's out. He's probably one that wants every fan to sit on their arse quietly until the game starts.

I've seen Callin Baton Rouge get the fans hyped and the players all jacked up because of it before the game. People that want to take this away are probably the same idiots who bitch about every single thing possible.

He probably likes that stupid arse Bitch I'm From Louisiana song they play on all the kickoffs. If that's acceptable then Callin' Baton Rouge is acceptable...and I'm not even a fan of country music.

Not a fan of Garth or the song, but it does get the place rocking and has become a mainstay at games.

Can't wait to hear it over the speakers in TS.

I love how the whole dome screamed "Louisiana".... Geaux Tigers.

Also, why has LSU not gotten him to come play for a game?

Cute peppy little song but if it's alleged that our gangsta rap loving players can't relate to Garth Brooks (I disagree) then they will have a huge problem with Zydeco.

You realize that the song is intended to excite the fans, not the players? If it gets the fans excited, and that excitement carries over to the game, then the song has accomplished its pregame purpose. In that respect he sang is far from terrible, it is actually outstanding for its effect on the pregame atmosphere.

That's where this song comes in to bridge the gap.
