A fan of another (non-SEC) team said that if Alabama is going to get a rematch, then LSU should simply decline the SECCG game to avoid injury and just let Georgia be the SEC champs. (LSU would forfeit to Georgia.) LSU would remain #1 in the polls. So why is that funny? Well, the side effect of that action is something that would drive SEC haters completely insane!

LSU would remain #1. Bama would remain #2. And Georgia, under some obscure BCS rule, as conference champion would also become BCS bowl eligible. That is the only scenario that a conference can place 3 teams in the BCS. In this case, Georgia would go to the Sugar Bowl. This newer rule is the only rule supersedes the older 2-team-per-conference rule. Can you imagine the outrage in the other conference?

So the reward for winning the biggest game in college football in the past 40 years is having to play a meaningless game before the NCG while the loser of that biggest game basically gets a first round bye.

What if LSU refused to play Bama? What would happen if Les said, "We've already beaten them, at Alabama. What more do we have to prove? We'll take the bid for the Sugar Bowl as the SEC Champs. frick off Bama".

That's one way to see it. Of course, it may be that the team sitting around for 43 days is going to be the rustier of the two teams. I think the SECCG keeps the SEC champ fresher - more game experience in a big, championship game. Perhaps the SECCG is a reason why the SEC champ has won the last 5 or so championship games. But that's not what the thread was about. The thread is just a humorous thought.

I've thought about that too. Bottom line, I'm not worried - Les always has the guys ready for the bowl games, first game of season, game after bye week, etc.....

In that case like the other poster said, why play the bcs championship game? It's already happened. Are we playing for network executives and their network ratings? If the bcs was created to match to two best teams and the two best already played each other, then game over.

I have an even better idea. Bama if invited should man up and decline the BCSNC game invite unless the LSU/Bama series is made 2 out of 3. LSU beat them at home. If Bama wins a one game BCSNC game it proves nothing. Its like the old proverbial ,"kissing your sister".
We all know the other issues here with Bama sitting out the SECCG and healing while LSU faces further peril. Bama should also insist on playing the #3 ranked BCS team for the honor of getting a rematch series.
If Bama is all for whats fair and honorable as they always claim to be, this is their only honorable position. NS is all about righteousness in everything he does in front of the Media. Lets see Bama put up or shut up about a MNC game right now. Now is the Time for Bama to man up if they truly want a "rematch'!

We should just win the SEC championship, show up and play the Sugar Bowl unannounced, win the BCS Championship, then maybe play in an NFL playoff game or two. Just give people an extended road show of the best college football team ever.

There you go introducing logic into the system.

But I'd laugh my arse off if they held a press conference and declared that there is no need for the BCSNCG this year.....

Yes, if Bama is invited to the NC game, it should say we already played LSU and lost. We don't deserve to play in the NC and should sit out and remain #2.

I don't think Bama should even be considered for the NC. You got your chance and you lost in a close game and that's it. Why is all the media saying that it's for sure that Bama is in the NC. Wait till the champioship games and the polls end.

Why is Virginia Tech playing Clemson for the ACC championship? Clemson already beat Virgina Tech in the regular season. I don't like rematches either but they are part of sports. We would see them more often if we had a playoff. In this case, its like we had playoffs and Bama and LSU won their separate playoff trees. If there were playoffs, Bama would be top seed in the 2nd tree and the final game would end up with the same two opponents unless one or both were upset. What sport would cancel the final game based on regular season outcome?

Look at it like this. If bama is put in the bcs NCG without winning a conference championship then all of this conference expansion going on around the country is pointless and every single conference championship game this year is pointless.

I don't ever remember hearing an Alabama fan even once, mention anything about honor. I was at dinner with Bama fans when the news about hiring Saban broke, and their exact words were " he may be a liar and we may be back on probation, but I don't care...I want to win"
