From an N.Y Jets Fan: As LSU alumni; your overall thoughts on Jamal Adams?

First and foremost I'm a lifelong N.Y Jets fan who's absolutely in love with the overall talent and on field leadership ability of Jamal Adams.

However, we do have a few Jet fans throughout our fan base who have labeled this kid as nothing more than a "Box Safety".

Once this thread receives over 50 replies I'll use this thread as an example (to a few NY Jet fans) on just how wrong they are and/or how much they do not know football.

Thank you great LSU fans in advance for the type of insight in which I already know we're on the verge of receiving. Passionate Jet fans and Jamal Adams Jet supporters alike for Green and White will all appreciate it.

WTH does this mean?

He was a smart player and made plays while at LSU. I think he will be a great one in the NFL

a safety that plays in the box more like linebacker than a DB. Not saying Jamal Adams is one, but that is what a "box safety" means

He’s a tackling machine. He can mirror wideouts and play as a deep FS but he’s much better when near the LOS.

New York tends to treat all athletes from the southeast with no respect.

He's good, but not great in coverage. Roams center field well facing the QB, but isn't going to ball hawk. Certainly not a liability with the ball in the air, so it's not really a weakness.

He's a tackling machine though. Excels in box.

I wouldn't call him just a box safety, that is just his main strength so coaches use him that way.

Jamal is the complete package at Safety. He can do it all but he does excel in the box. Go watch the play he made on Lamar Jackson across the field in the bowl game against Louisville.

Lot of positive energy, sometimes hes a primadonna and seeks too much attention which can be annoying. But overall hes a great ballplayer. Will be around for many years!

He hits like Ronnie Lott and can cover.
I was told by an opposing player, “He good.”

Thats not true. That is certainly his biggest strength, coming up and helping in run support, but he can do more. He can cover TEs, which as a Jets fan I would imagine is especially crucial against NE. Not saying he will lock down Gronk, but he can do just about as good as anyone can against that monster.

NYJ just need to learn how to use him best. I wouldn't have him as a sole deep safety. He is a playmaker, so let him come up and make plays. That kind of Safety/OLB/Nickle guy is a trend throughout the NFL right now. Adams is perfect for that role.

As Saints fans, the last couple of years we have had Kenny Vaccaro in that position. Jamal Adams is a way better cover guy than Vaccaro.

Jets need to make better use of his acting skills.

In my experience, no matter what you do - some significant part of a large fanbase will think / believe the opposite. I really think it is futile. I wish you well. But, no matter what is said about whom - there will be a fairly large group that say "nuh unh".

This. There are going to be times where he can be beaten over the top by letting WR's get behind him. Not a horrible coverage safety by any means...but probably not elite either.

However, he's a terrific leader and very few guys play with more passion. He's a playmaker in the box and no team is made WORSE by having him on their club.

Tremendous leader and has all the fight and will to win.

Loved having this kid. Outstanding playmaker off the LOS but he also can cover the TE
