“I can make this march, and I will make Georgia howl”
Gen. William T. Sherman on his march to the sea, which began on this day in 1864.

"We're here to finish what Sherman started" was my all time favorite Game Day sign when they were at the SECCG in 2007 I think

I don't think there is an angle of shite talk that upset Georgia fans more than the Sherman/LSU angle.

"It turns out that General William Tecumseh Sherman, Union Army General during the Civil War, was the first superintendent of the Louisiana State Seminary of Learning & Military Academy which would later become Louisiana State University (LSU)."

Read a book you bafoon. Sherman was the president of the university prior to the civil war and only left cuz he viewed rebellion as treason.
You can say what you want but it takes a man to not follow the mob.

oh by the way, LSU wouldn't be what it is today without Sherman...
keep in mind the Army gave the Baton Rouge Barracks (Old Pentagon by the Capital) to LSU upon departure in the early 1870s....guess who had to approve it, yup...W.T. Sherman!!!

General Perkins has something to say about this.

I’m siding with Georgia on this one

I've always admired Sherman.

Wasn't Sherman LSU President when LSU was still located in Pineville?

Sherman knew how to make a point.
After the war, he sent LSU a "gift" of two cannon, both of which had fired on Sumter to start the war. They are outside the ROTC building today.
Translated to baw talk, Sherman was clearly saying, "Don't start no shite and there won't be no shite." Alternatively, he might have been saying, "You fricked around and found out."

about as relevant:
Over the centuries, Georgia was the object of rivalry between Persia, Turkey and Russia, before being eventually annexed by Russia in the 19th century.
Since emerging from the collapsing Soviet Union as an independent state in 1991, Georgia has again become the arena of conflicting interests.

quote:
You people of the South don't know what you are doing. This country will be drenched in blood, and God only knows how it will end. It is all folly, madness, a crime against civilization! You people speak so lightly of war; you don't know what you're talking about.
War is a terrible thing! You mistake, too, the people of the North. They are a peaceable people but an earnest people, and they will fight, too. They are not going to let this country be destroyed without a mighty effort to save it … Besides, where are your men and appliances of war to contend against them? The North can make a steam engine, locomotive, or railway car; hardly a yard of cloth or pair of shoes can you make. You are rushing into war with one of the most powerful, ingeniously mechanical, and determined people on Earth — right at your doors.
You are bound to fail. Only in your spirit and determination are you prepared for war. In all else you are totally unprepared, with a bad cause to start with. At first you will make headway, but as your limited resources begin to fail, shut out from the markets of Europe as you will be, your cause will begin to wane. If your people will but stop and think, they must see in the end that you will surely fail.

I wonder what Gen Sherman would say if he saw Chicago, Boston, D.C., Detroit and NYC.
