With all the excitement about Gausman and LeMahieu getting called up, I just thought I would give a little update on how some of the other Tigers are doing in the minors.

Anthony Ranaudo: At AA Portland Sea Dogs, Ranaudo is apparently coming along quite well after being plagued by injuries last year. He is 5-1 in 43.0 innings pitched. 1.67 ERA, 46 K's, 13 BBs, and a fricking absurd .91 WHIP.

quote:

“And I’m able to command it pretty well,” added Ranaudo whose fastballs routinely range in the 95-97 miles per hour range.

Jared Mitchell: Looks like he is on the DL with an oblique strain for the AA Barons. He was apparently doing quite well before though...not to mention him making catches like this one:

Holy shite

Matt Clark: Sadly, the Padres organization traded him to a Japanese league.

Mikie Mahtook: At the AA Montgomery Biscuits he seems to be needing some more work. Through 45 games he's played, he is only batting .227, which definitely needs to improve. His OPS is .734 though, and leads the team with 7 triples.

Mike Fontenot: Though he is not in the majors anymore, he is at the AAA Durham Bulls in the Rays organization. in 34 games he is batting a decent .275/.346/.408

Austin Nola: Through his 42 games with the High A Jupiter Hammerheads squad, he is batting .255/.342/.348 ...looks like he is getting a shite load of singles. Surprising stat here though is that he has made a surprising 6 errors on the year. But all things considered, call that fricker up because the Marlins suck in a miserable kind of way.

Ryan Schimpf: Schimpf looks to be doing really well for the Blue Jays affiliate, the AA New Hampshire Fisher Cats (these minor league teams have some stupid names). He is batting a .233/.365/.516. Apparently the other night, his team won a game 5-4, and he didn't record an AB because he walked all 5 times he got to the plate. It should be noted that he leads the team with an .880 OPS and .516 SLG and 11 HRs. So his .233 seems to not be a huge issue.

That's not really how it works.

The padres screwed him over so bad. He should have been called up to the big leagues

I found this comment on a blog post about Clark's situation. Apparently a players agent negotiates the deal for the team to sell their contract to a Japanese club. He's making more there than he would in AAA. But this is funny:

quote:

Soon Matt Clark will lay down a bunt rather than hit to break his manager’s home run record, marry the manager’s daughter, and then return to the States to become a manager, only to be called chief.

ETA: The more informative comment here:
quote:

The player (his agent) arranges a deal with the Japanese team and then the teams negotiate the sale price. In this case, Padres coach and former Chunichi Dragon Alonzo Powell helped facilitate the deal. He’ll make $450,000 in Japan versus $10,750 AAA scale in Tucson.

not really. he had a good spring training with the white sox but did so poorly in AAA he was demoted after a few weeks. He hit .132 in 53 at bats with 27 strikeouts in AAA. He didn't do much better in AA either before getting hurt, was hitting .214 in his 5 games there.

btw, for everyone asking about individual players, you can go to lsusports.net, select baseball, then scroll down to players currently in the minors. you can click on each player and it will send you directly to their player page on milb.com

Not trying to flame, but Mitchell was not doing well before his injury. He started in AAA, but was demoted to AA after 14 games. He only got to play 5 games in AA before he was injured. He was hitting .132 in AAA and only .214 in AA. He has really struggled at the plate. I wish him well.

Mitchell's MILB page

Micah Gibbs was released by the Cubs on May 9 and he was playing High A at the time. He was not hitting the ball well at all which was a surprise.

Micah Gibb's MILB page

Best way to keep up with LSU players is to go to MILB Player Bookmarks and enter the last name of the player you want to find. It will take you to their stat page and you can bookmark them and keep a whole list of LSU players if you want. I follow several LSU players and other friends. The stats are updated real time, while they are playing and it is pretty interesting.

Best of luck to all LSU players in the Pro's.
