You can't blame the coaches for riding Guice, and maximizing his ability. Darrel Williams is a good back as well. And not to mention, our qb, as the reports have indicated, has been inconsistent. And our wr's are, for the most part, unproven.

I don't blame the coaches for relying on the run. I will just be happy, if the offense is unpredictable, and productive.

You used the word "just" wrong.

"Only, simply, merely"

Etling looked decent. Seemed comfortable but the WR didn't help any of the QBs out. Brennan had one awesome pass but lots of breakups. It looked like they were playing against 15 people sometimes because the corners were everywhere. I felt like Donte Jackson especially looked good. Delpit is the real deal. freshmen QBs looked like freshmen. Brennan got a lot more reps so to me that says something but he didn't look ready. Could have been the protection he got but I didn't look at his OL each play.

There is a shite ton of moving around before the snap. Linemen going everywhere. Backs shifting. Receivers running width of field. Conditioning better be good to go.

I'll also add that Guice didn't have any huge runs but he had a couple where he made 6-8 yards out of nowhere. Just waited for his lanes to open and danced around defenders. Williams had one solid run but got stuffed a few times. Clyde looked good. Shyrone Carey like almost.

Thanks for the honest believable assessment. Can you provide any details on the kicking game? And how is the dline 2 deep arranged? I hear now that E Alexander is out, wondering if any DT'd have shifted over or what our 2-deep looked like on dline.

Offense will be better. We will still run a lot, but it will not be obvious what we are going to do. We will have a lot of movement and formations, and can run or pass out of any of these. Also like that we change tempo frequently. Saw things had not seen in a while like pump fakes, and throws to the RBs and TE's.

Think Etling will likely be starter due to experience and more time with the playbook. That said, we will be OK if we have to turn to Brennan. Despite having the least amount of time with the playbook, Brennan seemed to have a lot of poise and a good handle on where everyone is supposed to be. Was correcting and moving WR's presnap occasinally when they were set up wrong. Has a strong arm and very quick release. He looks to be the real deal. Might need a little more time, and could certainly use a little more muscle on his frame. Probably has the most upside of the bunch.

Guice was Guice, doing the usual Guice things for the first couple of series, then held out rest of scrimmage. No reason to take any chances with your best weapon. He's ready to go. Williams is solid and a very good pass catcher too. First time to see Clyde the Glide in action, and he impressed. Think Dalton 2.0.

Two concerns on offense. The obvious one is depth on O- line. For the most part, the starters performed well against our starting front 7 on defense, which is likely better than most defenses they will face. However, when we went to the #2's against the #2's, the Oline seemed to struggle and protection broke down some. Of course, that was including some freshmen in the mix, and a couple of walk-ons.

The second big concern would be at WR. Chark is a stud, but we need someone to step up on a consistent basis, There were some occasional bright spots from Davis, Dillon, Gage and McMath, but there were lapses and mistakes as well. We need a couple of these other receivers to step up In a big way, or Chark will face double coverage all year. Our best receiving threat besides Chark seemed to be our RB's. Need to have some downfield threats.

Defense will be awesome. Even with Key out, and the fact that our defense probably didn't go completely full out hitting their own teammates, you could see the potential. Aranda is going to turn this bunch loose this year, and we will be coming at people from all directions. Opponents are going to be thinking we've got 15 players on the field.

Don't know for sure how this season will play out. We are young, thin in a couple of spots and a very tough schedule, especially on the back end. But this team will be fun as hell to watch. And for all the Tiger fans who liked to sit in the stands or in front of their TV's and try to guess our next play before the ball is snapped, your accuracy percentage is going to take a big hit. And that's a good thing.

I already posted about the kicking game in the other thread but Gonsoulin was clearly better for the 20 min we saw them. Punting looked weak all around. Kickoffs weren't great but Gamble had a few nice sky kicks that landed in end zone. Both times during live play we didn't have a return reach the 20. Could be crappy blocking. Could be bad returns.

Didn't really analyze depth chart as they rotated a lot of guys in there. A few guys got nicked but that's not my place to share as I don't know if any of them were serious.

If there is one thing I took away yesterday it was this: defense looked fast and physical and deep. Receivers need to step up.

Did they seem comfortable with all this movement? After a decade of Les Miles' confusion I'm a little gunshy on all this pre-snap activity.

You know I didn't really think about it before but we had zero pre snap penalties that I saw. That says a lot to me as it was a concern wth this type of offense. So I'd say they seem comfortable with it. We had to rotate a lot of guys through to keep them fresh. But everyone seemed to know their place. Only once did it take too long and we called timeout because someone missed their alignment. Pretty sure that was the 2nd team though.

Remember the touchdown pass to Dickson against Ohio St with the crazy formation? I think we see stuff like that more often which makes the defense unbalanced and exposes a hole.

I disagree. Growden shanked one but absolutely drilled 4 or 5 punts.

You're a two time idiot with just one very shitty post.

Ed Orgeron won't be returning to USC's coaching staff - LSU's defensive line coach, reportedly was being courted to be defensive coordinator by Helton

Watching the punters warm up it just didn't look consistent. Few more than 40 yards without a rush doesn't impress me. But I was watching the kickers more so maybe I missed some. I had to tell the old guy next to me who everyone was cuz he couldn't read any numbers.
