For those asserting that the gameday experience isn't what it once was

How much of that do you actually contribute to aging, and life just being different? We often see threads on here lambasting the piped in music, TAF fees, inadequate parking, etc...
Many posters state that 97 Florida, 03 Georgia, and 07 Florida gameday/crowd will never be replicated. Perhaps the gameday experience is the same, some posters simply get older and their perspectives changed.

Kind of like going to your favorite restaurant from 20 yrs ago and saying it's not as good as it used to be.

It certainly was easier to get the gameday experience back in the day, still have a great time though.

Everything is always better back in the day. Just the way it is. I still have fun every gameday, but it was def better years ago for whatever reason.

gameday's will obviously be best when the person is 18-23 give or take... carefree and in college getting wild
I personally had my favorite times around 28-31. Now that i have a family with a 10 month old... those times will prolly never be replicated again

The Bama games lately have been as good as anything from the past atmosphere-wise. And I was at UF 97, UGA 03, and UF 07.

I pay very close attention to this stuff. Some of the loudest games I have ever been to was when the stadium held 67,500 people. That is when most of the fans were regulars whose families had had their same season tickets for generations. If the fans are less rabid as a whole now, I blame a lot on the corporatization of the ticket base. Back then, if you wanted to watch a game you had to go to it, and our opportunity was second to none. Now you can stay home and watch 30 games on tv.

I was at 07 Florida. Was 17 years old. I was always an lsu fan, but had a very rare in state scholarship to Tulane. That game was so awesome, I decided that night I had to be in the student section. The ss was incredible that night(as was the stadium all together). Long story short, ended up at lsu. Met my wife, got my job, and still have friends from school. That game changed my life for the better.

Agreed. If we had won against Bama last year it would have gone done as one of the best game atmospheres. The crowd was nuts all game. Before the game was wild. Game Day was packed. It was a great atmosphere minus the outcome.

My age has definitely contributed to my gane day experience. However, I believe the leading factor for everybody, has been trying to get hype but knowing les was going to bring 3yrds cloud of dust offense. i believe the crowd will be more into the games this year.

I was at all of those games, and crowd for bama last year was a loud as any of them.

Just like anything else in life- it seems to be the best when it's new.
It's like the same old argument about the newer music isn't as good as the older music, that older music was your first true love so nothing will ever be better than it.
The Star Wars movies also come to mind.
We age, perspectives change, we get use to things, life happens.

Yep . I agree with the OP. I've been going to LSU games for 44 years . At some point you quit bitching about your back or 10 hours straight in the sun and just pass the torch . Which is why I'm thrilled that Pimp Jr is old enough to drive, and he can now take his sister to the games and I can watch at home .
I moved my daughter into her LSU dorm yesterday . I told her to enjoy the games, because sitting in the student section and being that age will ruin it for her . It's just not as glorious at 30 or 40 or 50 as it was at 19 surrounded by your best friends living on campus with all your friends there living the dream. It sets an impossible bar to measure the experience against . And as you get older, you have those moments, but you also change, and a ten-12 hour commitment isn't what it used to be . Maybe once or twice a year but not seven times in two and a half months and road games etc.
I'm going to pick my spots from now on . It's an experience that needs to be maxed out .

i think that's some of it but the main drivers are:
1. Success made our fan base fat and happy
2. Charging people to park on campus made the tailgating, parking, and traffic exponentially worse
3. Super HD 4K Hi Def 70 inch TVs not only available but now affordable

thing is we used to get that for 3 or 4 games a year at least and now we're lucky to get 1

Games are more fun when you are young or college aged. I still like going to 1 or 2 a year but for the most part I rather watch them from home.
