Why don't we want to fire Sean Payton?
Why are we not wanting to start another QB?
What would happen if Les Miles had losing seasons two out of three years?
What if Les got suspended for a year? What would be the reaction?
Having a quarterback that constantly throws into triple coverage the last two years? Or just throws it up hoping the WR/JG can out jump everyone?

He's a good coach who had a bad year.
Because he's still good but had a TO problem this year.
More people would want him fired than now.
Depends on what for. CSP got a$$ raped by roger.
Silly non question with little basis in fact.

We had a few games where the O decided to not show up, and yet we still have the number 1 offense (ypg) in the NFL.

#1 offense + 29th defense = a lot of losses

Two second place finishes in the division and one wildcard playoff win qualifies as very successful?

We've finished 13-3, 11-5, and 7-9 in his last 3 seasons.

We've won 2 wildcard games including 1 on the road

We've won 65% of our games, which would be top 20 all-time for coaches

That is very successful, and he's clearly one of the top NFL coaches and is rated as such

What good is having the #1 offense if you turn the ball over and can't punch it in on 4 downs from the 1?

The defense sucked, but the offense didn't do them favors. We weren't the dominant offense that we've come to expect

It is strange, isn't it?

But Sean won a super bowl!
Les won a NC, though... Why does one get a pass and not the other?

Do you really need this explained to you?

It is extremely simple and easy to understand.

There is no "pass".
There is no we don't care from the FO I assure you.
There is however reasons why seasons go bad and sometimes reasons for thinking a coach and team can do better the next year.
If CSP has the same kind of year in 2015 he will be on the hot seat/or gone.

One reason is because Sean Payton can actually put together a coherent sentence. So, we know what he is going to do to make improvements.

On the other hand....

If you really want an honest answer, the Saints have won 43% of their games in their history and Payton has won 62% of his games with the Saints. They had one playoff win before him - he is 6-4 in the playoffs. His teams account for 50% of their playoff appearances (5 out of 10). He has 3 of their 5 divisional championships. He has their only two NFC Championship appearances. He has won their only NFC Championship and their only Super Bowl Championship. The Saints were 3-13 the year before he took over. He went 10-6 in his first year, won the division and took the Saints to their first ever NFC Championship following Katrina. The Saints were perennial losers before Payton and hadn't been to the playoffs in the previous 5 years before he took over.

The NFL is much more cyclical and there are no easy wins. Belichick is one of the very few coaches that have won big consistently in the NFL. But he first did a stint with the Browns where he had 4 of 5 losing seasons. His first New England team was bad too. Payton's losing seasons have not been bad at all. 7-9 is not terrible for the pros. It's not what you want, but it could be worse.

With that said, if Payton's team loses again next year, people will be calling for his head.

As for Brees, does anybody think we have a better QB sitting on the bench? I don't think so. Some people think that with LSU. Also, a number of the Saints losses were on the defense this year. Brees blew it a number of times at the end of games as well. But people take for granted how accurate he is most of the time.

I trust that he is smart enough to make changes to the offense and he also understands the need to throw the forward pass more than 12 times a game.

Drew may be at the end of his career, but you don't sit a hall of fame QB that has won a superbowl.

There are more reasons during his tenure to lack confidence in les miles than Sean Payton. From very specific things like repeated poor clock management in crucial games, multiple QB starters for multiple years (terrible system), old school play calling that is very predictable, to the bigger picture like underperforming with talent. LSU has had some of the best overall recruiting classes for years (props to miles and company for that) but have done less with the talent once on campus. However, Sean Payton and crew have been experts at finding top talent in free agency for cheap and propelling those players to higher levels.

I'm not a les miles hater, but I have questioned his competence many times. In my opinion, I don't hear the gameday crew say that Les miles out coached his opponents after a win, but rather that LSU wins because of the high level of talent at its disposal. when's the last time you said we won because of les miles?

Now, having said all that, I don't wish les miles to leave unless there is a proven high level coach to replace him - that is a short list. Otherwise people are just hoping the craps shoot hits lucky on the next guy up, which is foolish.

I'll hang up and listen to your response. Geaux Tigers

Thanks to BB81, ScottieP, Big EZ and a couple others for good answers to the questions.
Never said I would fire SP or replace Brees just saying the leash is a little longer.
Payton's offense is great but what about the D?
Brees is a good QB but to use the excuse he will be a first ballot HOF'er makes no sense. So will Brett Farvava but it doesn't mean I'd want him as my started next year.
