Ready for all the expert advice I can get from this board.

Since ESPN owns the game, what is the source of the $$?

If it is ratings and TV commercials etc, why do they care where it is played?
If it is from the venue, wouldnt closest to orignial venue have highest attendance?

Just trying to understand what is driving the decision for ESPN and why it is taking so long?

probably trying to keep the game at the same time. ESPN also brings a lot of support staff to put on a game. Those arrangements have to be taken into consideration as well.

They have to get actual proposals from the host sites. This isn't just picking up the phone and saying hey can we play a game at your place.

That means they don't know either, just want to rant instead.

you don't know what these venues may be asking for from ESPN in order to stage this game on such short notice. Way more goes into this than any of us know. Just chill, they will play and the Tigers will be ready. It will just take place on front of a near empty stadium.

Logistics seems logical to me as well. Man, you would think a company that does this all the time would have it down to an art.

There will be a poor turn-out no matter where the game is played. ESPN owns the rights to the game and is probably getting bids from potential sites as well as considering there own advertising deals with whoever owns the naming rights to the stadiums. So it probably some combination of who thinks they can put the most buts in seats combined with whose naming rights partner has the sweetest deal with ESPN. And this is 100% uneducated speculation on my part.

It's mass hysteria "again" - I'm getting called crazy in some threads because I suggest that the game might not go this Saturday.

Surely rational folks accept this is a possibility, right? It's not like we, as a team, don't have actual, recent, historical examples of that, right?

As much as want the decision to be made, there is some due diligence that must be done first, as indicated in a comment from the head honcho in Nashville:
quote:

In Nashville, Scott Ramsey, president and CEO of the Music City Bowl, says his staff is still evaluating whether they could host a game, checking availability of police, hotels and other personnel. He plans to report back to the SEC and ESPN later Monday. He did not know their timeline.

All I know if flights out of NOLA to Orlando skyrocketed from $60 to $200+ since this morning then went back down about an hour ago.

It's certainly possible, but all indications are the game is going to be played somewhere. Also, this situation is different. Alleva doesn't have to ability to be incompetent and screw this up as it's not in his hands so I'm not sure what point you are trying to make.

Do you really not know the answer?

They have to do cost-benefit analysis between the cost of moving to another venue vs. the revenue they'll draw. Also, they have to find a venue that can staff/prep for such an event on short notice (the logistics of these events are not easy or quick).

It's not as easy as unlocking the doors, turning on the lights, and playing football.
