2002 was just a really weird season.
That's because Mauck got injured. LSU was 6-1 and just dominated UF in the Swamp for the first time in ages. Mauck got hurt and Randall did his best, but LSU finished out 2-4 if I remember correctly.

Yep. It is impossible to overstate the value of a QB who can move the chains. Mauck could do it, Randall couldn't.

I'm as optimistic about Harris as the next guy, but he's gonna have to prove he can move the ball.

Still trying to figure out why Texas A&M is a toss up..

Average recruiting ranking 2012-2015: LSU 6.75, A&M 10.25. Not much difference is "talent"

2/3 games have been very close with a small sample size. This formula invented by ESPN has LSU at 4 and A&M at 11. LINK

So yeah, on 6/22 I'm not saying it's a lock.

Some of yall are in for some major disappointment.

It's happened every year minus 2007. You should have caught on to this long ago. There will be predictions of 15-0 in August.

Difference is, we have a new DC. People seem to be over looking that. We are going to a new scheme. How players pick that up will be a major issue.

As long as we can stop 80 yard drives in the final minute of games I'll be happy

Ummmm... Except that whole two SR QBs thing, right? And a dominating bowl win to finish the season? And being 11-2 at the end of the year, right?

Could happen if AJ is the permanent backup QB.

Miles won't be able to help himself on this one.

We have no depth at middle linebacker...

When is the last time an LSU team had good depth at LB? 2011 didn't.

I like the optimism, but IMO this season looks more similar to 2009 than 2011

2009 - coming off an 8-5 season that included some UGLY losses (UF, UGA, Ole Miss) and a close home loss to Bama

2015 - coming off an 8-5 season that included some UGLY losses (MSU, AU) and a close home loss to Bama

2009 - New DC formerly of another SEC school

2015 - New DC formerly of another SEC school

2009 - Soph as starting QB after making 1 start the previous year (Jefferson)

2015 - (likely with AJ arrest) Soph as starting QB after making 1 start the previous year

2009 - coming off a season where LSU finished unranked

2015 - coming off a season where LSU finished unranked

2009 - 3rd year on staff for the OC (2 previous years featured one really good offense and one not so great offense)

2015 - 3rd year on staff for the OC (2 previous years featured one really good offense and one not so great offense)

2009 - long road trip to a struggling BCS program (Washington)

2015 - long road trip to a struggling BCS program (Syracuse)

Besides all of that, in 2011 a 5th year Sr. with significant playing experience was waiting to step in after the arrest of the projected starting QB. This year were looking at a true Soph with minimal playing experience stepping in for what will likely be a suspended starter. There certainly is some young talent on the 2015 roster, but the young talent in 2010 was part of a very good 10-2 team that had only road losses to the eventual national champs and a good Ark. team that went 10-2 the next season. Many people saw the potential of the 2011 team coming. LSU started the season at #4. The 2015 team has a lot of questions that still need to be answered and like in 2009, LSU will start the season ranked somewhere in the mid-teens.

No Chavis. That will hold you back.

Hopefully, it'll hold us back from the high 3rd down conversion rate we had become accustomed to under Chavis.

I will be surprised if this team does better than 9-3 for the season. There is nothing at QB and the defense will be a mystery. Running right for a yard or two, running left or up the middle for another yard or two, and then throwing a pass won't get it. LF can't do it all by himself.

Guess again.
We return 8 starters from the #1 defense in the SEC in 2014.

Like 2011? Maybe while one QB fights a legal battle, the other will lead us to the most perfect season of my lifetime again. Then one game Les (who I support on everything but this) will ruin it by putting the other guy in during middle of a game we're winning.

When the crowd boos the coach for jinxing the perfection, everyone will come on TD on a high horse and say "F u to everyone who boo'd the player". Which was 0%, but whatever.

Maybe in my next life I'll get over 2011.

Only Russell Gage and the walk-ons looked bad, and that was against first-team wideouts. Our secondary didn't do anything different than what they've been taught. Scheme hasn't changed but playcalling and different flavors have definitely been added to the defense.

Yep. Plus the secondary will have more depth with the incoming class. I think Cutrer will be cleared and maybe we'll get to see Robinson earn his way back on the team earlier than expected.
