College Football Nerds, who I generally like, both said they expect 9-3/8-4 with more of a lean to the 8-4 side. They make some fair points but also totally ignore some other things. One of them incorrectly says we were 8-4 in the regular season last year but does get corrected by the other guy. Discussion starts at 1:02:49

That’s good because they’ve been absolutely awful in getting anything LSU right.

9-3 or 8-4 is a negative review?

For a team that’s going to start out top 6 or 7 yeah I would say so

I realized that they don’t actually know anything beyond the stat sheet. For example, one of them talked about how we have issues at WR (:lol) because we lost Jenkins and Boutte. On paper it looks like we lost our 2nd and 3rd best WRs. What this ignores is the eye test that says Brian Thomas Jr is a ducking stud and he will eat more now that there are 2 less mouths to feed. It also doesn’t take into account growth that we hope to see from Lacy or take into account that we have a lot of highly touted guys in Anderson, Sampson, and Brown.

Basically they do have good points based strictly on data but data can’t tell you that the guy that was the 4th WR is actually a complete stud that just needs an opportunity.

I think their data does a better job of giving insight on individual matchups starting in week 4 of the regular season when trends and team identity can be seen through data. It does a poor job when asking the data to predict the next season.

That’s probably true, though I do think losing Jenkins is a bigger deal than people think.

I don't care to give them the click, but I would be curious if they mentioned these possible 3-4 losses because I don't see it. Maybe 2? Maybe 3 if we just mail it somewhere, but 4?

Yeah. Not buying it.

But sites like that have to say something to get traffic. I'm not giving it to them.

Jenkins had several “big” catches (led the receivers in TDs) but was 5th in total catches. Just three catches ahead of Lacy. I thought Jenkins was under utilized last season. But I think the argument his loss is really big is based more upon perception than reality.

LSU will have one of the deepest, most talented Receiving corps in the country. I liked Jenkins a lot but I highly doubt LSU takes any kind of hit by losing Jenkins this year.

9-3 isn’t a crazy prediction for this team. In fact, it’s more likely than 10-2 imo.

Key to the season is the secondary. If they perform, our front 7 is good. We have the QB and the weapons on offense. Will be interested to see how well Perkins handles inside linebacker.
