Clemson football was also discussed via wiretap by Clemson basketball asst coach Steve Smith like this, in relation to Zion hoops recruitment: "That's why football is so successful, is if you do it and use resources at Clemson, like you can really keep everything tight."

Matt Norlander on Twitter following federal trial.

So now both Bama and Clemson football implicated in paying players.

I don't care if they do. Just leave O and Wade alone as well.

None of this surprises me. There were several articles reporting at least 3 dozen- and up to 50 or more schools doing this.

I'm just waiting on ALL the school's names to surface. I want to see that list. The big names were expected from my point of view.

Didn't you know? Nobody cheats at recruiting except for Will Wade. Cheating is bad and therefore never happens.

I've thought for a while that we're seeing the disintegration of the college amateur sports model. Slowly at first, but the pace is accelerating. The first sign was the decline in attendance. Now the curtain is being pulled back on the business side of it. What, if anything replaces it remains to be seen. We may all have to find another hobby with in another year or two.

There's a great chance they'd go after Clemson football, though. Clemson has been Bama's primary challenger over the last few years, actually owning a 2-1 series advantage in playoff games both teams deserved to be in. Knocking Clemson down a few pegs would make it that much easier for Bama to be the undisputed king of CFB.

You're right. This will lead to the call for the NCAA and colleges to pay the players, but Charles Barkley said it best. "You can't pay every player" Only football and basketball are profitable. How do you pay the baseball, softball, gymnastics, soccer, and every other college sports teams. Even if you pay college fb players, do you have slotted payments. QB's get the most? Are DL paid more than OL?

you've got a short memory. Bama got hammered not that long ago:

"But back in 2002, eager Yeager was donating his time as the NCAA infractions committee chairman digging down on one of the most heinous cases in college history.

Alabama was in the midst of having its name on four major cases in 14 years. It was a “repeat violator,” NCAA code for being eligible for the death penalty. It was Yeager and that committee that stepped back from the brink of nuking one of the top brands in sports.

The penalties that were applied were bad enough: Five years probation, scholarship reductions and a two-year bowl ban."

Bama was a blue blood football program long before Saban got there.

Simplest solution is to let players get paid to endorse things, or for use of their likeness. We stopped that nonsense with the Olympians, finally, and things didn't go straight to hell.

The series is tied 2-2 since 2016.
They've played 4 times in playoffs.

Someone on Tidefans, of all places, had a pretty insightful observation. If these schools turn into minor league teams, is anyone going to care anymore? Nobody cares about minor league baseball. The fiction of amateurism preserves the illusion that CFB (which is the engine that drives everything else) is a different animal than the pros.

The only hope is kind of ironic if you think about it. The NCAA needs a Trump-stacked SCOTUS to overturn Title IX in order to remain intact and relatively unscathed.

All this trial is doing is reaffirming what all of us already suspected. All power 5 programs cheat. The more successful they are in their respective sport, the more they cheated to get there. There seems to be a direct correlation in being the best and being the best at cheating.

The more that comes out, the bigger this gets, the less likely the NCAA will be to act on any of it. Even now, this is much much larger than some vague implications about Wade.

NCAA is probably thinking, what the hell do we do now? It's like the beach scene in Deep Impact.
