Fall baseball stats through 7 scrimmages

I know LSU got a big football win in the swamp Saturday but we have some baseball to keep up with also.
Few take aways from the stats from Scuba and some of the updates from Wild. Thanks to both of you.
Ruddell is obviously a pleasant surprise so far this fall.
Morgan doing what most expected with low K rate but also seems to be tapping into some power.
Beloso putting the bat on the ball with only one K. Maybe someone who has been to most of the scrimmages can chime in to whether or not it is hard contact or not.
Travinski K rate seems to be improved so far this spring. That is good to see.
I don't keep track of OPS but I would imagine Kling would have a pretty good OPS. Seems like most, if not all, of his hits are for extra bases.
Nice to see Thompson with a decent weekend at the plate and continue to not see many Es next to his name in the reports.
On the mound I hope to see Floyd continue to pitch well. Primeaux has been a surprise of the freshman so far this fall.

That is the assumption on anyone who hasn't pitched yet. Hopefully all minor issues.

Glad to see another Central kid on the mound for LSU

I know the pitching numbers seem crazy, but we have two full lineups of dudes hitting. And, younger guys can take a big leap forward between the fall and spring. From the sheer number of arms standpoint, we have enough guys that freshman can be brought along slowly until they're ready for their role to expand. We also don't "need" to rush Hurd. He can build up as the season goes along if they want.

I don't want to overlook Zeb, but Merrifield's performance is huge. We have alot of good OF options, and Zeb may still get spot looks there or even at DH. But, having Merrifield ready is really, really important. Nippolt also seems ready. Infield depth is always a thing.

Agreed. With the amount of pitchers we have he can go all spring until SEC play throwing 60 pitches and ramp up a little going through SEC play. Will be important to have him healthy come postseason. That is what the plan to build up stamina should be for.

If you see the play continue to build from here, it seems like the depth will be nice at every position. Catcher and infield were the concerns. Especially MIF. Looks like we may be ok there. I think Thompson will be fine and Guidry should start to settle in as the fall goes along. Hopefully Nippolt's injury was nothing too serious.
Dugas is struggling a little at the plate but I think that may be because of him concentrating on trying to get better at 2B. Maybe once he gets full fall practice to get into a groove at 2B the bat will start to come around a little better. One thing for sure, he continues to get HBP often.

Iam really excited about this team. Also love the fact Jay is working on bunting a lot. That is a huge part of the game especially in a large park like Omaha. It's been awhile since we had pitchers topping out at 95+. And holy crap, Paul skene's. He is going to grab so much national attention being a duel threat. Pitchers will only get better with a big time mlb pitching coach. Buckle up tigers, it's going to be a fun year.

I don't think Dugas had a good fall last year. In fact, Jay almost never mentioned him leading into the season. And, it looked like Jay was itching for a chance to take him out of the lineup early. I think Jay learned how much of a gamer Dugas is, though.

You are right. He did struggle in the fall last season. Also struggled in the spring going into the season so you can understand why Jay might have not seen much in him.
You are also right with him being a gamer also. His OBP is hard to ignore also.

Start bumping all of Scuba's threads. It will send this fruit into a tailspin.

I can think of 8 or so separate topics to start on my own.
Zeb
White
Skenes
Catcher
Third OF
Lineup talk
Starting pitching
The shitty stadium and noticing that part of CF has a temporary fence.

If Neal is serviceable behind the plate he starts. Milazzo is a great defensive catcher but his bat is a black hole. Neal not only offers a better bar, but another left handed hitter in a lineup that will struggle to find them.

I think the amount of fire power in the rest of the lineup gives Milazzo a longer leash though. With some of the pitchers, we need more than "serviceable". We need good receivers. Milazzo is the best right now, and the learning curve for a freshman catcher is high.
I did read yesterday that we expect to play 4 catchers in the pre-conference.
