Gold whips Purple 8-2 in 5 innings.

7 Ducote 0-2
2 Romero 0-2
5 Lockridge 1-2 2b
9 Adams 0-2 2K
6 Reid 1-2 1rbi
4 Kaird 0-1 1BB
DH Forshag 0-2 1K

Pitchers
Norman 88mph 1.2IP 6H 6ER 3BB
Stallings 92mph 3IP 5H 1ER 0BB 1K

Gold
9 Duplantis 2-3 2b sb cs 1rbi
4 Robertson 2-2 1BB
8 Fraley 2-3 2b 1rbi
7 Jordan, Beau 0-3 1rbi 1K
2 Papierski 1-3 2b
3 Deichmann 2-3 HR 3b 3rbi 1BB
5 Freeman 1-1 sb cs 1rbi 1BB
6 Dawson 1-2 2b

Pitchers
Godfrey 92mph 3IP 2H 1ER 2BB 2K
McKay 87mph 2IP 2H 1ER 0BB 2K

Deichmann's HR came after he had drawn a walk and Maineiri had him take another at bat.

There were a couple of nice running catches by outfielders, today. One by Duplantis on a long fly ball to the warning track in right center by Lockridge. Another by Fraley running toward the center field fence for an over the shoulder catch of a drive by Reid.

The Gold started the game with a pretty 6-4-3 double play.

Ducote had a good throw to gun down Dawson at the plate 7-2 after a 1b by Robertson.

Not sure if I should be excited about Gold getting so many hits, or nervous that Norman got rocked. Scrimmages can be tough to tell, but with all the hitting we have to replace, I like seeing the offense, even if it means Norman had a rough day.

Thanks again, Scuba

Norman gave up 5 of his 6 hits in the first inning. Then he had trouble throwing strikes.

We saw a few of the early innings. Norman didn't look so good.

Last Friday he threw 89mph and had 4BB and 2HBP. This week he took a little off and was more accurate.

So in your opinion who gets ss and 3rd? The 2 freshman? Also how does mckay's offspeads look? He was supposed to be a "fire baller" throwing mid 90's

How has the second baseman look for purple team? His name is Bryce laird. He has been doing well I hear.

As of now, way to early, I think Maineiri likes Trey Dawson at SS with Cole Freeman at 3rd. They're the ones who have been starting with the veterans during the scrimmages. Freeman is a JC transfer and, therefore, experienced and Dawson looks smooth on defense. However, his bat needs to get better, IMO.

As for McKay, he has been falling behind in counts, due to wildness, consequently has had to throw a lot of fastballs. I haven't been sitting behind the plate so it's difficult to judge his breaking ball.

Laird has only had 7 plate appearances since his arrival Monday. In those, he has 1 single, and a couple walks. As for his fielding, it's nothing special; A couple bobbles on routine plays and nothing else outstanding.

Are the Gold hits inflated by the Purple pitching? Flip the script... Does the Purple have less hits because of Gold pitching?

The Gold team was comprised of all our veteran position players plus three newcomers. The Purple team was all newcomers. As I've said in previous posts, the new players are struggling to hit SEC quality pitchers, consistently. I'm sure some of them will adapt by the time the season begins.
