I know that every team has a finite amount of practice days for the season.

If a team is going to their conf championship, do they earn extra days for that competition and does that affect their days for a bowl?

I would assume so…since you get extra practice days if you go to a bowl.

I don’t remember the specifics, but that is the main benefit to playing in some of the early (shitty) bowl games. I’m sure someone will have the answer.

Someone said on TV today that A&M really needs the 15 days it loses by not being bowl eligible. I assume if you make the playoffs you get more than just the 15 for a regular bowl.

The 15 number is a myth. Coaches, players and media use that number because 15 is allowed in spring ball. For bowl games, conference championship games, and playoff games the teams get 20 hours a week total.

That’s false. You would get less practice time with an earlier bowl game.

Correct. I work for a CFB team that consistently goes to early bowl games. One year we had a Dec 16th game and only got 7 true practices in because you can’t start bowl practices until after Conf. Championships are over, unless you’re participating in the championship game.

COVID year we did 4 practices with how late everything was pushed back. Treated it like a reg. Season game.
