I know LSU will never be UK, Duke, Kansas, UNC, Michigan State, etc..., but is it unrealistic to think LSU could get a coach that could get us to the tournament 60-70% of the time and have a Sweet 16 team (or better) a couple times every 10 years??

It shouldn't be unrealistic with the kind of name plate LSU has with football and baseball

This should be the bare minimum expectations.

Simply put we havent invested in basketball at all since Daddy Dale was here.

Dale at least had us in the tournament EVERY year for a while here. We were a national brand back then (not saying ELITE national brand, but recognized nationally).

A school like West Virginia has been to the tournament 7 out of 9 years under Huggins. No reason we cant compete with a program like West Virginia when it comes to basketball. We have plenty of local talent typically, especially compared to WV. A big problem is the SEC doesnt take basketball very seriously, where as WVU has been in basketball conferences like the Big East and Big XII. They hired Bob Huggins who went to 14 straight NCAA tournaments at a C-USA school (at the time) in Cincinnati. We hire a former player who went to the tournament twice in a decade from the Sun Belt.

The school has to show some type of commitment to the program and we could once again be a strong team year in and year out, and challenge on a Final Four type of scale once every decade or so when the stars align.

Right now we have gone from bottom feeder in the sec to yearly bubble team. That's our ceiling with johnny. If the AD is okay with it that's what we are stuck with. If you want to continue to bring the program up you will need to hire another coach. Hopefully hire an upgrade.

Back in the 90's I felt the same way about the football program. Never thought we would reach status of the BIG dogs of the time. I think it is possible to reach this level in basketball with the right leadership at the top
