like most tropical system in the northern hemisphere the worst stuff is to the east. tropical storm force winds might not even make it to Gainesville

Maybe - or it wobbles just a little westward, and hurricane force winds get to Gainesville. Why would the Florida administration even take the risk?

You still don't get it, do you? This is not just about Gainseville. It is about the entire state. F. King said today that LSU needs 450 law enforcement officers to work a game. That does not include EMTs and other first responders. I assume Florida needs a similar number to work a game. These folks will likely be needed on the coast to help with severely damaged areas, evacuations, people needing rescue, severe injuries and other problems that arise with a natural disaster of this magnitude. Maybe they won't be needed, but you likely will not be sure of that until Saturday, when you have a chance to assess all areas.
Cancel the game. Play it in February. But be responsible with the allocation of resources with a major hurricane bearing down on your state. This game is not a priority in Florida this weekend.
