I agree with the op. O did a good job as the interim with a staff that was not his own.
If we keep Aranda and get a good OC (Kiffin or someone near that level), combine that with the locked-down recruiting, then I think it's safe to say the sky isn't falling.
It's not sexy and not my first choice but it's not terrible either. I think there's a reasonable chance this could be good.

Its pretty telling that his best attribute was not knowing how to run an offense or run a defense.
Also, our team was really ready to play against a 14 point underdog at home.

To get the job at LSU as an interim, you have do two things. Beat Alabama, which he did not do. Win every game you should, which he didn't do as well when he lost to Florida.
He did not do an outstanding job. He was adequate, and adequate shouldn't qualify a candidate to be the permanent head coach.

Aside from Saban's excellent defensive coaching abilities,in my opinion, what has made Coach Saban a great coach is his one major condition he gave Bama before accepting the job--Bama, you have to trust me to put the best players on the field...no politics
This has and always has been LSU's major downfall...too much political interference when it comes to recruiting the best players....and then playing them...
