Say what you want, Etling is doing some good things for this LSU team. Etling is taking more grief for poor offensive line and poor wide receiver play. When he does get time to throw, the receivers are not making the catches. Etling made several plays the other night avoiding the rush and making positive yardage.

He's a really average passer, which is exacerbated by having very little time to throw the ball.

But there have been times where he just hasn't stepped up in a decent pocket and made his progressions. Instead he turns and runs or throws a bad ball.

He'd be great for a team like Bama probably (or 2011 LSU) that has an outrageous defense and a good OL.

ETA:

But we've definitely had worse. I think he might be hearing footsteps though from all the hits he's taken.

Etling lacks the physical tools. Yet he has something most QB’s wish they had and that is heart! The kid is courageous but he isn’t very talented. But I love the heart he plays with.

We all know that DE is no world beater. That said, he is our best bet to handle Bama's defense unless our defense folds and we end up really needing points. Then they should let Myles let 'er rip IMO.

If those other 21 starters can handle business well enough, DE is the guy that we need on that field.

He's extremely average. That deep ball to Chark against Ole Miss was one of the worst deep throws I've ever seen. It was literally 20 yards underthrown. I wish he would step in to some damn throws sometimes. It looks like he's throwing to his 3 year old son every time he throws the ball.

He is not terrible but he is not great. Hes what this team needs this year, plays with heart and gives you 100% of what he has. If every LSU player played with the heart he did we would be undefeated.

Danny DUAL THREAT is better than what we’ve had in 4 years.

I understand y’all like Etling.

But when you watch other elite teams QB play compared to us.

Y’all it’s depressing. Perfect expamle is the Ole Miss back up. Kid would start here day one. UGA starter gets hurt....no problem.

Bama has two, Texas has two. Cuse has a better QB than us.

We’ve been so bad for so long that y’all settle for mediocre. Because at least mediocre isn’t god awful....

When he gets pressure, appears any thought of throwing the ball disappear, whether it’s to a receiver or throwing it away.

I see that early in games more than late, especially in recent games. But don’t know if it’s because the line gives him more time late, or if he settles down.

Etling is not a good quarterback, but he plays his heart out and gives every ounce of ability he does have. His arm strength is not good enough for the long ball and his patience for a second or third option, when he has a little time, is suspect.

However, he gets too little help from a patchwork, freshman laden oline and a substandard receiving corp. Hopefully, when Brennan takes the reigns next season, both of those issues will be addressed through continued experience on the line and recruiting a stud or two wideout.

He'd be alot better if he didn't do this weird micro-pump (don't know what else to call it) before every throw. Causes him to be late getting balls to receivers on most routes.

I don't think throwing Brennan out there against Alabamas defense would be the smartest thing to do. Brennan might get seriously injured.

He has also missed a ton of wide open receivers and has a tendency to panic when his first read isn’t there.

He’s not terrible and, so far, hasn’t made any game losing mistakes.

But he isn’t a guy who is gonna carry a team and win a game for us when the opposing D shuts down the run. Like Bama will.

Etling currently has the 3rd best passer rating in LSU single season history, and he's doing it with no time and 1 WR. People who think he doesn't have an arm and isn't very good just don't know anything about the QB position and how difficult what he's doing with what he has to work with is. He got crushed on this throw ppl keep bitching about to Chark Saturday and like most fans who dismiss him are too ignorant to even realize that it happened. A play or two later when he had time to step into the throw dropped a dime to Sullivan that was dropped but he'll never get credit for that. As usual the majority of the Rant are 100% wrong about Etling, what he's done this year is incredible.

I appreciate your allegiance and you are right about a couple of throws on Saturday night, but it still doesn't outweigh his lack of natural ability.

Best QB we've had this decade behind Mett.

I know that isn't saying much, but he's better than what we've normally had.
