LOL
In its 118-year history, the Ole Miss football program
has claimed three national championships (1959,
1960 and 1962), six Southeastern Conference titles
(1947, 1954, 1955, 1960, 1962, and 1963), and one
SEC Western Division title (2003).
59- we all know what happened- 10-1 loss to BC and Co. then 21-0 the rematch; 11-0 Syracuse the AP and UPI champ even though OM had 8 shutouts and allowed only 21 points.
60- Webels 10-0-1 again stymied by a 5-4-1 LSU team 6-6 tie at home; FWAA named them #1, 8-2 Minnesota AP #1 even after losing to UW in Rose Bowl LOL
61- Webels foiled again by LSU 10-7 for 9-1 season lose to UT in Cotton
62- Webs undefeated! USC AP and Coaches # 1 while 3 various other polls give OM the nod
So that was the way it was LOL
BTW, I could swear we beat them 03 and went to SECTG LOL
Can't wait to payback this year in DV!

The way the SEC recognizes titles, Ole Miss did share with LSU that year since they had the same conference record. It may not seem fair, but LSU has also benefitted from that rule (see LSU's 1996 and '97 SEC West co-titles).

We were both 7-1 in conference

We were both 7-1 in conference. Co champions. We won the tiebreaker to represent the west in Atlanta

The polls (AP) selected the national champions prior to the bowl games, they were viewed as exhibition games. They changed it in '65 or '66.

I know.
The black bears folded over their banner between the C and the h to make it say "Champions"

if ole miss were co champions, why didn't they go to atlanta that year?
Posted on 6/24/14 at 3:24 pm to TigerintheNO
This is correct; it was 65 when Gumps beat Huskers in O Bowl and others (Mich St. and Ark) lost theirs AP declared them NC.
BTW, do we even have a banner for 96 and 97 co-champ? I honestly forgot about those!

As stated. .. tiebreaker is to determine who represents the west. It is not to break a co champions situation.
I mean, its not that hard to grasp
