"Miles’ 22nd fourth quarter/overtime comeback victory at LSU."

More love for him

LSU: If you handed LSU coach Les Miles a team of 85 freshmen, he'd probably find a way to put a competitive squad on the field in the opener. After losing a plethora of underclassmen to the NFL draft, the Tigers found a way to knock off Wisconsin 28-24 in Houston on Saturday. LSU is far from a finished product, but it's already better than expected.

That's the thing. Les' turnarounds almost never happen at the half. Things just randomly start shifting at some point nearer the end of the 3rd quarter.

Also known as "imposing your will on the opposition". Love him or hate him, Miles insists on doing things his way ... it works against a large majority of the teams he faces.

Miles resembles a genius more than he does a goof. There’s a reason LSU is the winningest program in the SEC since Miles took over in 2005 (96-24

I sometimes think fans don't get the magnitude of that accomplishment. During a period of time when the SEC has ruled college football, "LSU is the winningest program in the SEC"!

After sitting in TS in the 80ies and 90ies crying in my beer over loss after loss to the SEC powers, I am truly amazed and grateful for the elite success given to LSU by NS and LM!

This is from a Badger message board from 8/31 at around 1:15 a.m.:

Most of the fan bases in the SEC have felt like we do right now at some time over the last 10 years thanks to Les Miles, More strange things happen in games he's involved in. Delay of game on a kickoff, that's just hilarious.

Both Arkansas and UGA that year were delayed throttlings that year. The true throttling didn't start until the second half.

And it's not random, it's the result of all the predictable play calling that so many LSU fans hate in the first half.

"Why do we keep trying to run the ball up the middle?" they ask, "If I know what play is coming next, you know the other team knows."

Yet no one seems to want to put the two together. Miles is an old offensive lineman. He knows the game in the trenches. He figures if he has the talent on the line, he will have his boys punch your boys in the face for 45 minutes - and then your boys will fold. It happens over and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again. Yet I still hear people asking "Why are we trying to run up the middle?" in the first half of games. I just keep replying, "It's so we CAN run up the middle in the 4th quarter." 22-21 when losing in the 4th makes perfect sense from this perspective.

this was a great win, but wasn't exactly a "throttling"

Exactly ... it's not pretty, but it's the Miles way. Lots of teams can be flashy (looking at you aTm), but how many teams can withstand the body blows through 4 quarters and come out on top? We may not like it, but there is a method to the madness.

We seem to play down to the level of our opponent more often than I'd like, but at the end of the day it's all about the wins and losses, and Les has won a lot of games.
