From Sports Illustrated si.com today
story on Goff and Wentz and Lynch
quote:

In the five-year span between 2009 and ’13, 14 quarterbacks were drafted in the first round. Five got second contracts, and one of those was Mark Sanchez. Only Andrew Luck, Ryan Tannehill, Cam Newton and Matthew Stafford remain with their drafting teams. Bottom line: The odds aren’t in favor of all three of these guys becoming true franchise quarterbacks.

If only 4 guys are top QBs out of 14 drafted in the first round of the NFL draft, why do you think coaches ought to be held completely accountable for Jarrett Lee vs JJ or any QB who did not quite have "it" to stand in against a late hit vs Alabama?

Because no one was measuring our quarterbacks on whether or not they were first round picks or whether they could stand in against Alabama? Our QB's have been far below average for college QB's since around 2011. No one is asking for Cam Newton, they just want a serviceable college QB. Dumb comparison.

Jarrett Lee was the SEC all star senior team QB.

he looked fine until a late hit was not called in the Bama regular season game.

We don't need Tom Brady to be able to beat Alabama at least once every 5 years.

So you're saying it's ok to have bad quarterbacks and coaches. Gotcha.

This is the correct answer to a dumb question.

I do remember the late hit vs Alabama. Courtney Upshaw I believe. a good 3-4 steps after Lee through the ball.

Elite NFL QB =\= average College QB

We would have settled for the latter.

Did Tom Brady even ever play a down of college football?

I think the QB play sucked after mett. I think JJ and Lee more sucked because Les was playing not to lose.

But plenty of programs have issues with QB play.

We talked a pretty big game about Jimbo. But he won a title with a 1st round pick. Other than that, his teams were just ok. And still didn't win jack shite with his other first rounder. Strictly talking about as a head coach.

The proper evaluation is how they do v. their peers.

Go compare LSU passing stats from 2009-2016 and really only one year (2013) is within the range of acceptability for a team that is supposed to compete for SEC titles and sends more players to the NFL than any other program.

Lee did some good things for LSU, but career 1TD/7INT ratio vs Bama wasn't one of them.
The staff saved him from tRant wrath by not inserting him behind that porous OL on 1-9-12.

Except I'm pretty sure 2011 had largest MoV since Wingard's 1908 team.

Anyway it's all history now.
