The biggest difference between the LSU of Saban and Miles' heyday and the LSU that got Miles fired is.... DT.

Yeah.. everyone that starts for LSU is probably going to play a little pro ball, especially on defense. But for over a decade we had absolute stud DT's from Dorsey- Lavalais- McFarland, Brockers, Kyle Williams and even some DE's the size of DT's in Marcus Spears, tyson jackson, marquise hill

we havn't had an all-sec big boy on defense in a minute

I really expect Rashad Lawrence to be all-sec caliber player this year...

And i expect all-sec type of production out of our NT combo of
ed alexander/ tyler shelvin/ greg gilmore

IMO defensive tackle is the most important position on the field. not only in regards to winning the game is this the case.... but in keeping one's dignity too

that's why i dont mind the Orgeron experiment. It's risky and his detractors' arguments do have merit. But he is getting and will keep getting bad arse DT's DL's to come to the Tigers.... and thats probably enough

even with Les Miles offenses the past three years.... we still probably go to the championship if we would have been stunning at Dt

It seems O is improving the lines on both sides of the ball instead of going after several 4* WR's a cycle because they improve your recruiting ranking.

So you're only allowed to recruit either linemen or WRs?

thats not why that happened

the philosophy was to more or less take the best players you could get. Not totally regardless of position but it was more flexible than it should have been.

DTs and DLs were recruited though and highly touted ones, they just didnt turn into monsters. Whether thats on coaching or talent evaluation or just bad luck is a judgment call.

it's nice seeing a coach actually recruit like he wants to build a championship team.

You're being beyond ridiculous if you think recruiting was Les Miles' problem. We had the horses but not the coaching during most of his seasons as our coach.

Preach on brother. That QB play and our offensive coaching was terrible for most of Miles tenure. I still have nightmares at night concerning that offense under Miles.

you have to realize the cpt. has to shite on miles even when his shitting on miles contradicts themselves.
he says miles was underachieving with all this talent and since this thread shits on miles recruiting, he joins in to shite on the talent Miles brought in.

The loss of Marvin Wilson and Phidarius Mathis still stings from where I sit.

Miles brought in highly touted recruits at DT, they just didn't pan out (ala Anthony Johnson). Whether that was a talent evaluation issue or a development issue, I don't know.

Well when you only get 2-3 lineman on both sides of the ball a year the odds drop that they'll be monsters.

We got so many WR's out of OBJ's fame that 1-3 transferred a year, even when they got significant playing time. Meanwhile our offense only needed 2 WR's to make it go. Not smart recruiting. Just keepin the fanbase happy.

You might get it out of Ed, but no way Gilmore is playing at that level. The ability simply is not there.

I totally agree with your overall point. Dline was what dropped off for about three years from 2013 to 2015. In 2016 we finally had the depth, but no star power from the big guys.

Recruiting was a major problem. Sure we had a lot of great players, but from 2013 to 2015 we had three years of poor to mediocre dline play. During that time we had no one who was nfl caliber except possibly Godchaux and LaCouture whenthey were immature.

D- Line and LB are my least worries as far as talent and development.
