There has NEVER been an LSU player with more grit and heart than Hester. Look at the 2007 FLA game and get back to me... I like Magee,,, but.........

Hester is one of my favorite Tigers ever. True leader and gritty as hell. Just not that talented.

Neither are small.

But i think the comparison you are trying to draw has to do with their lower half. Both have short legs.

Which makes his determination that much more important. The way he ran down the Bama guy in 2007 was a moment in LSU history that should NOT be forgotten. Is Hill more of a PURE talent?? Sure. But I wish he RAN like Hester. How good could he be.

If you put 31 on Magee it would be DD

I would take Hill over Hester without hesitation.. everyone would.. Hill is the best LSU RB since Kevin Faulk. He's averaging nearly 7 yards per carry fwiw.

5'10"
225
4.61 40

that stacks up with a ton of elite level RBs. He was certainly a viable SEC RB

Well sure.

Faulk >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> HILL and its not that close. I would take Toefield over Hill.

Sure when he WANTS TO. Hester grinded out yards and 1st downs like NO LSU back I have seen since Faulk and Dalton. IF Hill ran and played with the passion that Hester had he would win a Heisman.

Not that talented, huh. he played how many years of NFL football?

I guess it is all about how you define talent. He is not as physically gifted as many running backs from a size and speed point of view. But he was incredibly powerful, determined, and had great football sense (which is among the most important talents for a football player). He was pretty fast, as evidenced by several long runs against great SEC defenses, and he had great hands out of the backfield.

If you could run the numbers, he was surely in the top 0.1 percentile for football talent among all people that played football during his entire playing career.

I am not saying Magee doesn't have this... He is a great back. But the OP is comparing the wrong two backs.

Not even close, yet. Hester was a better technical runner, and he could put the team on his back. High intensity, high usage threshold, always "in the game", etc.

If Magee gets the senior treatment next year, he definitely has skills to be that type of player, but he's got a lot of work to do in the mindset department.

One skill that he as over Hester (and most RBs anywhere) is his receiving ability, especially from out wide. He looks like a full-time WR out there, and can take corners 1-on-1 on any type of route that a WR would run. IMO, this aspect of his game needs to be used more often.

He ran over that dude for tenn in worse fashion during seccg same year.

Without his block, Matt Flynn never gets that pass off to Dbyrd vs Auburn.
Complete football player and one of the best to ever wear P&G.

To have a guy like Tyran Mathieu's picture on side of Tiger Stadium and Jacob Hester's not be there is a travesty.
I was checking this out fri vs ark, if Hester's is there an I missed it obv disregard what I said.

T. Magee looks like a WR because that's actually the position he played last year. He switched after '11 I believe due to the logjam at RB, but he never saw action at WR that I remember. He moved back to RB with Ware & Ford leaving. I actually had him as my breakout offensive player before this season because I knew how much success Cam had with Ray Rice catching the ball.

Yep.

Right under Mo Claiborne.

Anyway I'm pumped about Magee's future at LSU.
He's gotten better every snap.

Terrance Magee reminds me of a Terrance Magee. The Terrance Magee that ran all over TCU looked just like the Terrance Magee that ran all over Arkansas. If we want to see a great example of what Terrance Magee can be in 2014, we shouldn't look at Jacob Hester first, because I think a more accurate representation is Terrance Magee from 2013.

Magee is on a different level than Hester ever was. Hester was basically a less talented Spencer Ware.. just a fullback playing HB really.

For having so little talent the guy sure did well in the NFL

Hester didn't play HB! He was an inspirational, tough mo-fo that could punish.
