Does our OL prevent us from having a short passing game?

Is our OL that bad that we can't have short 5 yard curls, quick slants etc. in our game plan? Can someone more knowledgeable than me about football tell me what's preventing Canada from calling these short passes?

Wouldn't it make more sense that it you had a terrible o line you would have to throw short routes?

Canada's pass plays take too long to develop. Our OL can't hold their blocks for Etling to find them downfield.

Short passes are very quick developing which means flit helps as poor oline.

I know. The OP said short routes, not long ones.

I mean, every team sets up in what might as well be press damn near every play clogging up the field within 5-8 yards of the line of scrimmage. You need a QB who can sling the ball into that type of space even when the defense respects the passing game. Etling isn't the passer to run quick slants and curls with when everyone on Earth is playing to stop the run and force you to pass.

Add on the fact that he doesn't have time to let receivers create the type of space a passer like him needs due to the line, and it doesn't seem like the best option. There's a reason why we're spreading the field with sweeps using the athletes we have at those positions. They can make plays with the ball in their hands, but it has to get there.

With Mett, we had a guy who could sling the ball and two solid WRs in OBJ and Landry so we could run those plays more often. We don't have the personnel to really succeed with that style outside of the off snap here and there. Much better off working the TEs on fades and mid and deep ball threats for the wideouts where they can use their athleticism to make plays with the cushion of the sideline to minimize the downsides.

I’m about 185 and I’m confident I could get through our line

The problem is that teams no LSU can't pass block, so they don't have send many to get pressure. Means more are in coverage, which is dangerous predicament for a QB, especially on short passing plays where he has to make a really quick read.

WR’s need to be open....quickly....

I don’t think they are doing that....they almost always seemed to be covered...that’s why Danny holds on to the ball so long...

And then our o line can’t hold their blocks...
