Does Moffit to TE mean that Caleb Roddy can switch back to defense?

It seems like his talent has been wasted so far by trying to make a blocking TE out of him.

All TE talents have been wasted. Give it a year.

I feel sorry for anyone who gets moved to TE. Just seems like a waste.

Moffit need to get his pops to add 25 lbs on him and start working at OG.

You realize that Les is no longer here and we have an OC that knows how to utilize talent

Supposedly Aaron wasn't doing well along the d line and knew his only shot for playing time at LSU was on offense. Props to him for being a team player.

Probably easier for Roddy to gain a little more weight to play tackle.

Aaron will be better suited for offense in the long term. He saw it along with coaches.. better to make that realization and move as a true freshman then 2+ years down the line.. the reasons why are irrelevant as he's a quality athlete with an incredible work ethic

So, of the TEs, which one is the best fit for the offensive line?

To switch I would say none. Here's my reasoning, if you switch anyone they won't be a solid backup because they have to learn the position. Might as well pray and wait it out for the next recruiting cycle.

Wasted? He's only in his 2nd year. He's still 18 for Christ's sake.

I'm assuming you've never seen a Matt Canada Offense

So why would he be more likely to get playing time on offense with at least 3 other TE's in front of him? Can he play guard eventually?

We should take such reports with a grain of salt. It may just be he doesn't project to play a lot on the defensive side, perhaps ever, with the talented DEs we've recruited and continue to recruit.

The switch to 3-4 has been less painful than many of us (myself included) thought. We went from a lot of question marks, particularly at NG and ILB and now we have an embarrassment of riches, at least relative to guys in the trenches on offense.

We're converting most FBs and TEs to some sort of H-back, but there is still some value to blocking TEs. Roddy and Moffitt are young enough, and big enough already to project a possible move to interior linemen on the offensive side, should either or both go that way.

Weathersby (although, admittedly, he always projected as a tackle coming out of HS) made the transition to OT. It's possible Roddy will (in a year or so). Likewise, Moffitt probably not a tackle's frame, but could gain 25 to 30 pounds over the next couple of seasons and be a contributer at guard and/or center as a junior/senior.

His build makes him look like a tweener, already, so yeah - I think he plays some TE this year and guard in 2018. Seems natural for this offense - Canada wants a little more athleticism in exchange for a little less bulk.

That's why I see Roddy growing into an OT in this offense - he's 6'5", 270ish (maybe bigger) and very athletic at this size.

Canada loves using the TE. Hell Canada loves throwing it to an o lineman.

In Canada's offense, he often uses an unbalanced line. You will see more tight ends used different ways than ever before. Aaron just might be exited to have an opportunity to play on the other side of the ball. I hope that they can find a place for him later to actually get playing time.

The only thing that holds me back from saying Roddy is that he's already a sophomore and he's 277. And he converted from defense to TE. Great athlete - arguably our best "large" athlete on the team, possibly excepting Key. Not sure he has enough time to become a great OT, which would be his best fit on the interior line.

Pettigrew is another tall kid, listed at 6'7" - but he is not nearly as thick framed as either Moffitt or Roddy. He would really need to be 315 or 320 at that height. I think he's better served staying at TE. For that matter, Roddy probably is, too. Moffitt can easily grow into a guard by his junior year.

Miles no Longer here for one and the TE is one of the bigger weapons in Canada's offense. Also roddy is in a good spot to see the field this season.l at TE. I doubt he would on defense. Hes not goin anywhere
