I could be wrong but I don't think it works like football. I don't think there is enough money in college baseball to do contracts like that.

Good question though, curious myself

Wichita, probably like all other early season non-conference opponents just needed a warm place to play.

I believe money is exchanged , but not nearly as much as compared to football. For example , I remembered hearing Southern Basketball gets $30,000 to go play teams like Duke, UK, UNC, etc. I guess it's something similar to that.

All I know is that LSU owns them. Between Omaha and this past weekend.

Pretty sure I heard on radio (Doug?) say Wichita is the winningest program over last 31 years. Haven't checked on this but trust it to be fact from LSU baseball radio broadcast.

That said, we owned that arse all weekend.

It would be pretty neat if LSU played at Wichita State.

I don't think they get any money. I'm sure LSU helps with their stay and probably provides a few meals, hospitality things. But like someone else said, the northern schools usually go on a 2-3 week tour through the South just to get games in.

Cann't see a program like Nicholls or even UNO paying schools from the North to come play down here. So it seems reasonable that LSU does not, either. As noted, perhaps some expenses like meals.

They do get money, football pays for everything.
LSU goes above and beyond, they give some meals as well.

It's amazing how far Wichita State has fallen over the years.

Yes, LSU could pay them. But it all depends on the contract.

Not really. I equate them to Louisiana Tech women's basketball. Both are non- power 5 programs who gave a shite about their respective "niche" sports in a time when few others did. Once the schools who had money at their disposal started investing in baseball and women's basketball, the Wichita States of college baseball and Louisiana Techs of women's basketball became also- rans.

Same with college softball. UCLA and Arizona used to win almost every year. Now there is more competition and they are just regular programs.

back before 56 game schedules, Wichita would play like 10 more regular season games every season than other schools, or more. they made the CWS a bunch in the 80s and 90s, so they were a good program that also played more games. For instance, in 1989, when they won the CWS, they played 84 games that season. In 1982, they played 87 games. In 1985, they played 88 games. And so forth

Hence, the whole "rent-a-win" thing.

Their athletic dept. gets an infusion of cash, they take an arse-whipping on the court.
