While we are piling on Johnny Jones ( well deserved IMHO) maybe we should be looking at a bigger problem. The lack of really good basketball talent coming out of the Gulf South, primarily. Back in the 1980's, the New Orleans area, Mississippi and Baton Rouge wee producing top flight talent for college basketball and most went on to have prety successful NBA careers.

Dwayne Bryant - Georgetown (Nola)
Danny Granger - New Mexico (Metairie)
Jaren Jackson - Georgetown(Nola)
Kerry Kittles - Villanova ( NOLA)
Randy Livingston - LSU(NOLA)
Chris Jackson - LSU ( Gulfport)
Clarence Ceasar - LSU ( Lake Charles)
Vernel Singleton - LSU ( Jackson, MS)
Chris Duhon - Duke ( Slidell)
Rico Gathers - Baylor (Reserve) Les and JJ missed on him
Langston Galloway - St. Joseph's (BR)
Karl Malone - La Tech (Summerfield, LA)- how did Dale miss on him?

Recently we have had a few big men from Louisiana like Jarrell Martin and before him Tyrus Thomas as well as Brandon Bass and Big Baby all out of B.R.

My point is, we are not seeing that kind of talent coming out of Louisiana anymore. Even before these guys there were the likes of Marques Johnson, Rick Roby, Robert Parrish. But recently I'm not seeing the big talent come out of Louisiana....why

There's a McD AA from Chalmette this year that JJ let get away. There's still a lot of talent in LA, he's just not correctly identifying it.

There's PLENTY of talent in La. to sustain a consistent tournament contender/participant type program.

Why? It cannot be a lack of identifying it....Chalmette is LSU territory.

Are we producing good enough point guards....college basketball seems to be a PG dominated sport now

He must not be all that good if he's going to the Sun Belt.

Louisiana had 10 players on top 25 teams going into the 2016. That is 13th in the country. Given our population as a state, that is pretty exceptional

Here is a map from the 2014-2015 season:

There is enough talent in this state alone to be a consistent tournament team, and we'd still be able to attract out of state recruits

The best PG in the country is at Scottlandville in BR. No chance LSU gets him though

There were 3 players from Louisiana playing in the Pelicans/Magic game last night. Only one of them even got an offer from LSU, and he went play at Texas.

Players you didn't list from LA, that didn't go to LSU but are in the NBA right now
Augustin
Milsap
Monroe
Donald Sloan
Von Wafer
Thadeus Young
Elfrid Peyton
Kelly Oubre Jr
Damian Jones
Robert Sacre

Lousiana is full of talent. Why the hell would you play basketball for the idiots we've had coaching here?

I think it's deceiving, because the men who are staying here are losing by simply being out coached. The talent on the basketball court, much like that on the football field the last several years, has been let down by their coaches. You can see that just by looking at the lack of discipline by the players. Recruit all-world talent. Fine. But there are 25 other schools for football and 125 other schools for basketball in the country doing that. The difference is the coaches. You have to have the right staff in place, or else you'll be 15th in the country every year in football, and 15th in your conference every year in basketball
It has to change, and if Alleva doesn't change, than the powers that be will. BUT FIRST, someone has to get tired of being mediocre and start giving a shite about creating a winning culture in order for it to be where the fanatics would like it to be. Money will have to be spent.

WKU????? At 6'10" Parade AA, Jones should have been giving away a condo to the kid.

....yeah.....Johnny needs to go home to DeRidder.

What about the kid from Landry/Walker in NOLA last year?

They were all drafted, except for Sloan, although he's had stints in the NBA, and they all have roots in Louisiana at some point.

Point is, regardless if LA has talent or not, LSU is such a 2nd rate program that they will rarely ever get the talent from this state. I love LSU, but if I had the opportunity coming out of high school to play for several different programs, LSU would be pretty low on that list. there are mid majors that are no brainers over LSU. outside of the 2006 team, it looks miserable to play for LSU over the last 15 years.

Its easy to cherry pick.

LSU players from other states who are in the NBA last couple of seasons:

Ben Simmons
Tim Quarterman
Johnny Obryant
Anthony Randolph
Jordan Mickey
Chris Johnson
Justin Hamilton

There are reasons players were not recruited or signed such as grades, roster size, needs in a given year, some wanted to play out of state, evaluations as sometimes lightly regarded high school players blow up into big time stars like Avery Johnson or Tyrus Thomas.

Do you think most coaches envisioned Marcus Thornton would be SEC player of the year and have along NBA career Or that Tasmin Mitchell would not even sniff an NBA roster? Or Garret Temple would have a 10 year NBA career while Big Baby and Tyrus or out of the league?

It doesn't matter where your players come from you just need to get enough of them. College basketball is a very mobile society and probably half of most rosters are from other states. It would be great to get every in state player who evolves into an NBA player but there are many variables inn this equation.
