Does it bother you when players leave early?

For people like LF7, I am all for them declaring. Any player who will actually get drafted in the first few rounds, and leave as a junior, I do not mind. I get a little frustrated with the guys who leave expecting big money and either make a practice squad or nothing at all.

It's hard to turn down the money when you are young and in the position, but some of these guys would certainly benefit after their career with a degree...

Anytime I get frustrated with it, I just look at baseball and basketball. At that moment I realize how well football has it.

As a fan when there's a player who I think shouldn't have I get a little irked because I feel like they could help our team win, but when you actually think about it we really don't know these guys financial situation. Us as fans tend to forget that even the bench warmers in the NFL make great money, some may not be millionaires but still really great money.

Not one bit. I think fans that begrudge a young man trying to earn a paycheck are pretty selfish when they think their entertainment is more important than these kids doing what they want.

Bothered me a couple years ago when it seemed guys were just jumping ship. But generally, no - Im happy for them and hope they have great careers.

PS - LF7 is staying 4 years. Book it.

I get a little upset with guys who seem to not be ready but then I see stats like this and immediately understand

"If a player remains on the practice squad for an entire regular season, he would earn $102,000. A player with less than one accrued season on the active roster would earn a minimum salary of $405,000."

which they can go back and get

At this point college is a business, and if a kid can go make a practice squad and that is his goal God bless.

I hate to see a kid get bad advice though.

He should check himself into a mental facility if he doesn't declare after 2016.

Some people may say that.....I don't think so. I feel that a kid should go through the college ranks of some sort. Drafted right out of high school a kid is getting thrown to the wolves a little too fast. However, the trade off is a payday that may otherwise never come. Lots of different scenerios that are specific to each kid I understand, so in the end it's more freedom of choice.

Football has the best route IMO.

It only bothers me when a kid either obviously get bad information from people around them or ignore the good information they get from the draft committee and enter against that advice....thing is though everyone has a right to make their own decisions. ...all their personal situations are different ....it's not my or anyone else's on this boards decision

I care more about LSU than I do the NFL.

Anybody that is bothered by a young man, most of whom come from nothing, deciding to go make a living doing something they love to take care of their family has issues. The only reason people care is because it would entertain them and some could care less what happens to them when they leave the university. The they should get a degree excuse is their way if coping with the selfishness. They can go back to college anytime they want but only have a finite number of years to make money playing sports.

It bothers me for those who aren't sure fire picks. Sure I want them to play for LSU as a fan. But I also hate seeing players be impatient. The NFL is a business. Teams view players as investments. They are far more likely to groom, be patient with and promote players who they drafted high. Every coach and GM views UDFAs and late rounders as pure commodities. Camp bodies. They have to turn heads dramatically just to make the 53. And while $400k is a lot of coin for a 22 year old, most last one season, two tops.

They are far better off playing another year in college, improving their draft stock and building memories that last a lifetime than jumping to the nasty NFL business.

This.

We don't own these guys. They're free to do what's best for them and their families.

Do they sometimes make the wrong decision? Of course, but that's their call.

Besides, if you're upset with early departures, blame the professional leagues. They're the ones that make the rules.
