Was the same play AFTER Saban called the timeout? Or did they change the play after timeout was called and have a new formation?

They were in the same formation before and after the timeout.

Yea, they were lined up the same. That play was good no matter who they put on the field. It got JD out of the pocket with multiple options.

And they still came out with 12 men on the field.

And Satan was 0 for 2 on 2PCs

Looks like Kelly had his play call and he was gonna stick with it, no matter what.

While they were in the same set they were not in the same formation. Wrs we’re spread out farther after timeout. They were bunched close to line before.

I think it was the same call but coaches adjusted the formation from something they saw before timeout.

Listening to BK he said one of the reasons they went for two is because they had a call they wanted to run. A play that had not been run yet that night and something Bama had not seen. I can't imagine he would decide to go for two based on that call then let Denbrock change the call in the TO.

The variations of that play were run earlier in the game and they worked. That is a lethal play going forward.

The only plays that didn’t work were the WR screens in the 1st half. The 2nd and 3rd attempts put us behind the chains on 2consecutive drives (2nd downs). I’m glad we scrapped those after the mid 2Q.

This. We had a bunch set closer to the LOS before the TO, but Taylor was going in motion, so likely the same play.

The more traditional formation worked well because it allowed the WRs to fire straight ahead and set their screens faster for Taylor. The other set would have made it a slightly slower developing play.

The formation was different. The two WRs were tighter before the TO. Unless told we don’t know if the play was changed.

I was there and remember certain players being on the field for the first formation, but not on field for the second

I think they were guessing, with plenty of evidence from the alignment, that it was man coverage. Was confirmed by Taylors motion.

So moving the WRs out was to potentially (and successfully) rub out coverage coming from the tackle box. Secondarily, IF JD had to run it put two blockers in better position to block down for JD to run behind Taylor and get to the pylon.

I believe that was their favorite 2 point play-call, so that's what it was always going to be. I think Kelly answered a question basically saying this.

It honestly surprised me who lost Bama was.

12 men on field after a timeout on the most important play of the guy is very Les Miles not Nick Saban.

This is likely true.

But you can see Taylor going in motion right before Saban gets the timeout called. It was going to be the same play. But like you said, the LSU coaches were able to get the receivers lined up exactly where they needed to be for the maximum amount of “rub”.
