Do we ever play press coverage?

We line up 10 yards off the ball giving the opponent any 3rd down they want. Are our DB’s that bad that we can’t play press? These 3rd and longs are absolutely hiking up my blood pressure.

Yes, but I think they do not trust it yet against those big recievers

Denver Harris can and seems like they let him do his own thing a lot.

They don’t trust the secondary to play one on one. They are afraid of them getting beat and giving up the big play TD. Thus you get the soft zone and allow the other team to methodically march it down the field. You then hope you hold them in the red zone. Bend but don’t break. First half it worked second half it didn’t.

Bottom line is LSU will have to score a ton of points to beat a team halfway worth a shite.

True and then they just target whichever corner is on the other side (usually Alexander or chesnut). Burns and Sam were bad too. Is Welch in the doghouse?

Welch is either still hurt or just a giant miss in recruiting. Not sure how you can’t get on the field when we are trotting out the guys ahead of him.

It seems to me that, if we're doing to plain a soft zone consistently, then we should blitz more. Get to the QB before the WR's have time to get downfield.

It has to be the scheme and poor player development.

There’s no way the talent is worse than a bottom tier school. I refuse to believe it.

Playing scared fosters zero confidence.

Seems like this is what we did the first half of the 2019 season. Then we tightened up our defense and played lights out.

Do you even follow LSU Football?

We are playing transfers from Southeastern, Syracuse, & Marshall in our secondary. This is the 2nd year in a row that we are playing a revolving door of transfers back there. Just because they wear LSU uniforms doesn’t mean they are LSU quality DB’s.

This is the least talented secondary at LSU since the Curley Hallman years.

I wonder how Denver would look covering the slot, he flashes some aggressiveness. If only we had some old school dominant boundary corners to allow us to see we need more talent in that room ASAP

Yes the DB’s we have out there are not top tier SEC talent with the exception of Harris. I’d like them to tighten up their cushion but I don’t know that we have the Safety play over the top to help. Burns isn’t impressive in coverage.
