He was weaker at MLB than any of our DTs and it's not close.

I've always said similar, but the defense got exponentially better when he was replaced, so I suppose the joke may not be on the fans.
Yes he is an outstanding athlete, I defended him here. But he wasn't the best mlb for the team. A lot took it too far

Dude knows how to coach a defense but started Welter over Beckwith for 1.5 years and LB is supposed to be his speciality? What in the ever living frick.
That was purely the mental aspect of what Chavis required. Took Beckwith longer than we all wanted. Equivalent to a stud RB not playing because he couldn't learn pass protect packages.
It's coming out now that players are enjoying Steele's defense because they can just turn it loose. Not so much time thinking and adjusting. We will see if it is as successful.

Guy was not a SEC caliber LB. Loved his heart and effort, but he got blown up in every SEC game he played in. Most were harsh towards Chavis for leaving him out there to get destroyed time and time again. Not the kids fault as he obviously put in the effort.

He's a fantastic athlete. Unfortunately, SEC is only for freaks.

Well crap, I guess the jokes on us since when he became the starter our defense became pretty stout........wait, that's not how it happened.

Name three starters for LSU that have been worse than DJ welter since 2000 at any position. I'll just sit here and wait. The criticism was pretty warranted imo, seems like a nice guy but watching him repeatedly get burned then jump on the pile 3 seconds after the play was over was one of the hardest things I've had to watch during the Les Miles era and that's saying something

maybe he should have spent more time getting better at his position than "trolling" a message board.

I think it was the Bama or Ole Miss game last year where LSU held up nicely against the run all gane until Beckwith went down with a minor injury and left the field. On the very next play, the opponent ripped off a 17 yd gain up the middle where Welter was completely erased from the play. The play after that resulted in a big gain up the middle as well.
I'm not judging but it was quite apparent that the opposing staff shifted their attacking focus on the LSU defense.

At all of the fat, slow, wannabee couch potatoes responding.
You can dish it out but you can't take it.

I was an sec athlete, so I guess I can still say he was terrible and had no business out on the field. Would have been good at La Tech but not LSU

Yeah, because once again HE WASN'T EVEN AT LB in Welter's first year. Chavis had him on the DL trying to learn to play DE.

I ask you to go find some examples of anyone saying they could play the position better, that's obviously not true.
But when 95% of the linebackers in this conference are better than him, I think fans are allowed to say whatever they please.
Not to mention the fact that he was ahead of who is now considered one of if not the best player on our defense.
Soooo stop acting like the guy was worth a damn. He wasn't .. except vs Iowa, which is in a conference that matches his speed.

Oh he got us!!!!
He was not an SEC-caliber linebacker physically. Period. That's not deriding him or slandering him...he's slow, weak, and timid at a position that can't be those things. I'm sure he could blow up some D-2 140 pound running backs, but not in the SEC.
I don't need to be Patrick Peterson to see the guy didn't have the skills required to do the job effectively.

And to all the people calling others "fat couch potatoes"....
You think Welter was good, making you a retarded fat couch potato.

The OP is making things worse for Welter by doing this.
Wow. Way to take up for your boy. I'm sure he will appreciate that.

he just flat out admitted that his brother and his friends were idiots on tigerdroppings and troll you. He never made it to the level of an SEC athlete, I really don't think you care much about the opinion of some out of shape LB. There is no doubt that he was never a talented player. It always amazes me how someone with no shred of talent (such as Welter) can mock and be so derogatory about someone (the fans) who is putting his heart on the line for the university that you say you love
