Dissecting the Florida Fake FG

I just saw the feature video of Josh Jasper and Derek Helton that is posted on lsusports.net. During the feature they demonstrate the Fake FG and it answered a big question for me. Why the bounce and what happen? They said it was the first time it had ever bounced. So I went back and compared the clips. Florida actually defensed the play really well. The reason for the bounce was how fast the defenders were coming in which caused Jasper to go longer on his cut in to catch the ball. I was never sure if it was a short toss or what. Now I now the toss by Helton was perfect and Josh made a great play on the bounce. Had Josh made his usual cut to catch the ball the play would have blown up.

Les Miles sorcery is what made it work.

i didn't have to re-watch it to figure that out. it was pretty obvious.

Thanks! I was wondering if anyone else had come up with that brilliant deduction!!! :nana:

Thought after the game Helton said it was a bad toss and this never happened in practice?
Find it hard to believe that Jasper would have intentionally let a football on natural turf bounce to him?

Look at the video clips, the pitch was perfect and had Jasper not cut wide the play would have blown up. Jasper did a great job of adjusting.

Amazing!! You went to all the trouble of creating an alter just so you could post this?

Had the pitch been longer and the ball been pitched in stride, I really think we would have been short of the first down. Watch the Florida player that Jasper cuts inside of just before going down. Without the bounce to pick up I think he tackles Jasper short.
Before you critisize, watch it and look at what I am talking about.

Knowing it hit the turf and not seeing the film he probably thought the toss was errant. It was apparent after watching the replay that Jasper went wider than Helton anticipated.

THis, but let me go a step further to disect this and explain it correctly...
It's like we won the powerball 17 times in a row.

I would venture to say that if a guy is making you a blind behind the back toss, you had better run the play exactly how it is practiced because the guy who is throwing the ball over his shoulder behind his back will expect you to be at a certain spot.
I'm not sure that anything about the play was intentional other than the play call itself.
The ball bounced our way for once and the play was successful. No reason to analyze it any further than that.

exactly, it was LUCK all the damn way around!

I have seen numerous fake fg's in my life.
I have only seen the flip over the shoulder 3 times.
I have only seen it work for LSU.

Flynn and Colt knew what they were doing because there shite was done perfectly, but you could tell these 2 were lucky as hell!

watched teh dudes on ESPN U do it outside their studio. everytime they tossed it it bounced where a kicker could pick it up. It wasn't as "lucky" of a bounce as we think it was. I bet atleast 70% chance it bounces that way since the toss was perfect from a angle standpoint...Just saying...

Please explain, as you can see by my post count I am relatively new to this and not yet familiar with a lot of the vocabulary (alter?).

And if....and if.........and if..........and if...........
All those and if's somehow prove what? That any play can be fantasized into a different result. What else do you fantasize about?
Um nevermind.
