Did the "at bat" mess up the no hitter?

I wish Poche would have stayed on the bench instead of taking that at bat.
Thoughts?

Edited for the numb nuts here:

Talking about the mental aspect of having to bat just before the final inning vs waiting to go out from the bench!

No, what messed up the no hitter was the ball hit up the middle that was a very tough play for Josh Smith to make.

And that play doesn't mean that Josh Smith automatically "sucks". Feel like I have to say this because a number of fans will think Smith "ruined" the no hitter for Poche.

The designated hitter was playing the field. So either he batted or Bryce Adams took his place and Russell reynolds pitches the entire 9th. For fricks sake, learn the game.

Poche couldn't have not batted and stayed in the game. Mainieri didn't send Poche to the plate because he thought it would be cute.

You make a great point.

If he had stayed on the bench, rather than batting, he definitely wouldn’t have given up a hit in the ninth.

Just said all the subs and him having to bat had more to do with breaking up the no no than somebody on a message board talking about it
