Did Simmons really go over 22 minutes between FG attempts?

I did not see much of the game, too busy trying to catch up on yard work and errands. But, I came in for a few minutes and saw this posted during the game. How in the hell can you be that good of a player and go 22 minutes without attempting a shot? Even if not included in the offense, certainly he would have grabbed a rebound and put it back up?

Going 22 minutes without a FG attempt tells me he had no interest in playing the game.

That wasn't 22 minutes of court time. He sat for much of the 1st once he got a 2nd foul, then again after this third. He went 4/11, so he took shots in the second half but they were difficult driving looks in desperation.

The reactions to Simmons here are baffling. Tim has assumed the leadership role in the offense and Ben and Johnny have allowed him to do so. Tim has played so poorly that he's played himself out of the NBA draft this year. Tim and Blakeny shot 3/27 today, and Victor shot 0/5. We had 3 assists. There are so many problems with this team that shitting on Simmons's production when he averaged 20/12/5 is cynical at best and most likely retarded. Johnny Jones claimed we played with "good energy," and we're going to blame the guy making most of the plays for the lack of effort? The coach is lost and useless and can't draw up an offensive possession, call a timeout to stop the bleeding, play his studs in spite of early fouls, or motivate his team in the slightest. No coaching was done on the sidelines today. It's a two part process I understand, and the players have to buy in. But we can either assume the blame lies with the guy who's standing there looking puzzled and depressed and not speaking, or we can assume that it's Ben's fault for not listening. Listening to what? I have no fricking clue, probably similar bullshite to his halftime interview.

No asses were chewed. No remotely successful adjustments were made. It was just mailed in, starting with the coach. I can't blame Ben for being frustrated when his team is getting embarrassed and he knows he's going to be taking a lot of the blame for Johnny's incompetence. Can't beat a team by yourself when they can't feed you on the post or get open through movement when you're facing a double team (Hornsby was the only one who did that with any kind of consistency). He's not gonna shoot us into a game, and while that is a flaw of his, it doesn't void his other skills. Our shitty team does that. When we cut and space the floor and work off Ben, he finds the open guy or gets a good look himself. When we stand around and don't get an open look off his double team, what is he supposed to do? Care harder? Care us into running an offense?

Thanks for the explanation. Again, I watched only a couple of minutes so was unaware of the foul trouble, etc. I thought it was 22 minutes of court time which would have been truly bad.

don't know how long he may have went without shooting but part of the problem may have been because he wasn't getting the friggin' ball...my friend (huge Tennessee fan) was watching game with me and he asked me why the frick weren't they getting the ball to Ben...he pointed out 5 consecutive possessions when he didn't even touch the ball !!!

Solid post. So true.

A coach sets the team's mojo/identity. Look no further than Izzo/MSU. Does always get gritty players? Or does he make then that way? He molds his players and then clips their wings as they flourish.

frick man, I love LSU basketball. JJ has stolen my heart
