Did Georgia's defense have injuries at beginning of year?

Statistically they have a good defense, and the "experts" are saying what a great defense they have...just wondering if pieces of that defense were missing when they allowed 35 points to Boise, and 45 points to South Carolina (!).

South Carolina's D scored directly off 2 UGA turnovers, and I think there was like another turnover that set up another TD. UGA did get run on though. Boise was pretty physical with em too.
I think some of the new guys in UGA's front 7 grew up and into their roles as the season went on.

Lets have a look at the offenses they've played shall we...
The 2 losses
Team - Total Offense - Scoring offense
Boise - 11 - 6
SC - 45 - 74
Incidenatally they were the only 2 ranked teams UGA faced all year
The 10 wins
Team - Total Offense - Scoring offense
Coastal Car - 90 -68
Ole Miss - 115 - 116
Miss St - 87 - 72
Tennessee - 102 - 107
Vanderbilt - 96 - 61
Florida - 101 - 71
New Mex St. - 48 - 77
Auburn - 104 - 82
Kentucky - 118 - 117
Georgia Tech - 19 - 21
And none of them were ranked.
I'm not saying their defense has not improved as the season as gone along but UGA's boasting about their inflated stats

Our defense only gave up essentially 17 to SC, when they had Lattimore btw. SC scored on a 5 yard fumble return, a pick 6, a fake punt, and from a possession that started at our 8 due to turnover. Don't really see how you can pin those 28 points on the defense.
And yes, against Boise we were shorthanded. Our starting safety that leads the SEC in picks was suspended, a starting LB got injured on the 2nd possession and was replaced by both a walkon and a true freshman, and our starting NT was playing in his first ever game.
This will be a different defense than the season opener.

Thanks for the info. So Georgia's defense is statistically good, but the quality of the opponents offense is suspect.

Just wondering, as an aside...how do you move on from a shellacking like the one Boise put on your boys. How did you feel when you lost to UCF in a bowl game? to Colorado? to Ok. State? the list goes on.
My point is as a program, you guys have been a perpetual embarrassment to the conference (police blotters and drug arrests inc.) and now here you are finally, somehow, someway - after close games with Kentucky, Vandy etc- in the SECCG. And now you think your soft schedule does not matter. Your losses to Boise and USCe don't matter. Yet, your defense is as good as ours. Your Offense is more balanced w/ better WRs than us.
I mean just lead me through your thinking process. What makes you feel so confident? And more importantly, are all UGA fans like you? Because I just don't get it.

I watched the Boise Game again last night. When Olgetree got hit by the Smurfs he hurt his shoulder and had to leave the game. That was a hit by a Smurf. Geathers there Big NT samething happened to him. He was out. That Fat arse John Jenkins doesnt have the conditioning to always be in so if LSU crushes any of there key players early they will be finished. Isiah Crowell wont make it past the first You can Book That!

Well why in the heck did y'all do all that? Doesn't sound like the formula for a winning strategy there. Btw, Honey Badger and Brad Wing are some guys y'all might want to keep an eye on if those areas might be problematic.
