Did Chaisson know that Key would be out some of this year?

Coach O had one of the best pass rushers in all of college football with two years of eligibility left but was still able to get another pass rusher that is one of the best in the game to come compete for the same job. CEO told Chaisson that he wasn't recruiting the kid to sit the bench. It would make sense that CEO used the off season surgical card to get Chaisson to come to LSU. If that's what happened. I'm glad that he did.

I am sure chaisson realizes Jenkins and orgerons track record. And understands key is projected to be a top 5 pick. Chaisson's decision is about getting to the NFL and making that $$$$. Plus learning from Aranda.

First of all, I dont think anyone expects Key for 2 more years.

Exactly. Key is off to the NFL after this year. If he was going to have surgery with a 9-10 month recovery time and is leaving after this year, Chaisson would be able to compete as a true freshman and be out in 3 years as one would expect.

He knew that he could be better than Key by the time he's done at LSU.

This might surprise you, but sometimes teams will play more than one pass rusher.

Also what everyone else has already said in response.

This is really one of the most naive posts I've seen.

I would hope that a guy playing 6A ball in texas would be confident enough to play on the highest level.

Considering that both could be playing at the same time, why in the frick would he be thinking about that?

Maybe he saw that Key and Godchaux were starters about a month into the season as true freshman and that LSU puts a ton of DLine and linebackers into the NFL?

Correct me if wrong here but one of our star DE/LB recruits was quoted/paraphrased saying he "hoped to help Key get the sack record by taking some pressure off him"?

Was this Chaisson who said that? Was confident he would see significant playing time, yet humble. I liked it.

I don't understand all the down votes and indignation, except that this is the Rant.
The question is a good one.
The Orgeron may have been aware of the issues that led to Key's disappearance last year or Key's possible need for surgery.
Either could have been used as an "edge" in recruiting talk to Chaisson. Good recruiters work every angle and DaCoachO is a good recruiter.

Is no one else worried that this is just the beginning of a Jadaveon Clowney I don't need to play this year style season from Key. I mean this whole thing has been quite strange already.

There is a lot of mystery surrounding Key over the last nine months or so, that's for sure.
