Cool. It's still gymnastics. An Olympic sport. Fun to watch every 4 years. That's enough.

DD is probably paid more than a lot of other gymnastics coaches given her tenure. Not sure why people continue to make such shitty comparisons.

You sure about that???

Those of you who think no one cares about gymnastics are obviously painfully unaware of the facts. A lot of people care, and with 10k showing up to most gymnastics meets, more probably care than care about MBB at this point. Gymnastics and softball have been huge draws relatively speaking. The mere fact that we are even comparing MBB with gymnastics (which was the point of this post) tells you everything you need to know about the state of our basketball program.

I personally have watched more LSU softball and gymnastics the last 5-6 years than MBB, and I am not alone. In fact, softball has by far more FB followers than the MBB team. Again, when you put this in perspective, it says what it needs to say.

So yeah, I watched gymnastics Friday night and enjoyed the hell out of it... and absolutely had no interest in watching the BB game this week. If you have never attended a gymnastics meet, do yourself a favor and go to just one. It's a heck of a lot more fun than you think. My bet is that more than half of you that go to one, will go to another one.

I'm a big supporter of LSU's non revenue sports, but there's really no point of this thread.

Breaux is paid more than enough in a sport that loses money at the bottom line.

Meanwhile Jones is cheap as frick from a market perspective. We pay him a 13th pace finish salary, so that's what we get. Actually he's far exceeded his salary from a performance-based pay standpoint.

But make no mistake-I want Johnny Jones fired

I generally scoff at the whole gender wage gap controversy, but this might finally be a disparity worth discussing

That's a ridiculous post. It has zero to do with gender. It's all about how much money the two sports make, and that's in large part due to television contracts.

Miles made 4 times more than Jones --- was it racism???

Tell me, how much does a ticket to a gymnastics competition cost?

I'm surprised the gymnastics coach makes that much honestly. I figured it would be around $100K

After 40'years-- I'm surprised it's not more.

SEC basketball average 7740 we suck and the teams we played suck and everyone knows it.

Is that paid attendance or actual? Only asking bc crowd at gymnastic meet looked much bigger than what I saw when attending the Vandy game.

Virtually nothing which if you think about it makes my point even more. No real financial investment for gymnastics but fans still showed up on a cold night as opposed to the MBB ticket holder who doesn't want to watch the shite show but has TAF fees and a $10 to 25 FV ticket that ain't really worth much on the secondary market.

FTR, I've been to 2 gymnastics meets ever and have been going to LSU basketball games for over 30. My point is gymnastics is more of a draw than MBB right now because MBB doesn't generate any entertainment or competitive interest and for that CJJ must go.

It's ticket sales that LSU reports.

An example is the 2014 LSU-Kentucky "ice" game.

LSU reported the attendance as 12124; however everyone knows that actual attendance was nowhere near that. Reported as more like 6000.

Gymnastics meet was on the SECN last night and will be again next week.

Sweet, will watch.

I was going to meets when I was in high school. One year I got to know TJ Pugh pretty well because he was going after some white pussy.

A few of the basketball players were there regularly, but TJ was there every meet. Geert Hammink showed up a few times and sat in a seat with his feet on the floor of the row in front of him.

DD is a great coach and deserves to be paid well. IMO with continued success they can start charging a couple bucks more for tickets and bring in some cash.

Her ROI is negative, because LSU doesn't make money off of gymnastics regardless of how successful they are.

Good national exposure + actually brings more people to the arena than basketball for a non-revenue sport. I have to disagree with you.

DD = Lsu Gymnastics looks good on the national stage
JJ = ESPN lol's at us

That link is from the 2015 season and it was just above 9000 average. It went up again last year. In 2015 they had one meet with over 13,000 in attendance (and another over 12,000) and yes, this is counting people who actually are in a seat, not just who bought tickets and didn't show up like at football games.

Basketball last season had a little over 11,000 average but that was a sharp increase from the year before and I guarantee you it had to do with our recruiting class and the high hopes riding on the season. Best of luck with that continuing this year.

DD is also Dean of Coaches at LSU and in the SEC. Is that a paid gig or just some special title? Could that mean some extra money that is separate from her coaching salary?

Gymnastics now has every single home meet aired live on ESPN somewhere, even if it is their streaming service. Yet attendance still continues to build. I no longer attend meets since I can watch comfortably from home.

It may not be the exact same as basketball but gymnastics does use retractable bleachers.

You are full of shite. Probably a little college punk that knows it all.

Beth only makes 100k in softball or at least that is close to what she used to make. I love going to softball games, and I'm a football guy. So fo.
