After watching his body of work through the Arkansas game, are you somewhat surprised or is this about what you expected out of his defense? I personally am a little surprised at how efficient they are and it just seems they are never out of position and my goodness do they tackle well.

This is the most punishing defense we've had in quite some time. It's a damn shame we won't get to abuse anybody in the playoffs with it. This D can stop ANY offense in the country.

Not surprised.
He did great work at Wisconsin.
He moved on to an SEC school with great athletes.
He made a new set of fans. I'm one of them.

Make him the highest paid DC in college football until he decides to be a head coach somewhere, not LSU, and make him part of the deal for accepting the LSU job.

But they might still get to do it in a New Year's Six bowl game which is what I felt this team could still look at as an accomplishment at the beginning of the season. This would still be a step up. They just have to finish and not lose focus. These are the moments where we get to find out what the team is made of mentally.

The defense has surpassed my expectations by 1/2. They are elite based on points allowed.

The most sound defense I can remember. Very few missed tackles, assignments, etc. Very disciplined. It's really fun to watch them play defense. I hope he stays and gets a massive raise to something insane like 1.8 mil a year. Only way we probably keep him another season before he bolts for NFL or another HC gig. Dave

i assume there are examples of a DC going from college to the NFL but i cant think of any. theres no way hes gonna go be a LB coach or something.

Said before first game as did many others that this def would get better as the season went on as its only his first year.

Just wait. Its going to get even better the next couple of years

only a few plays to nitpick - overpursuit opened a hole for whaley to burst through and pick up nice yardage, but that shite'll happen during a game.

other than that, the LB play is fantastic. they are active and they are flying to the ball.

He's exactly what I thought he'd be...ELITE.

We are getting better and better as well as the players get comfortable in the system. I don't care we lose a bunch of players, our defense will be awesome next year if he stays.

I am a (very) little surprised. Especially with how well he's done with the LB corps. Beckwith was a known commodity but he's turned Riley into a stud in very short work. Not all that surprising when you look at what he did with the linebackers at Wisconsin, but still, a fantastic job.

I thought it was a little "reactionary" when people started saying that Aranda was extremely pivotal in this off season. But I definitely see it now. It's the best defense we've had since 2011 (with a little less talent).

Hope we can get him to stick around. Would love to see what he can do with (Devin) White after another year.

And you've gotta think it's becoming a draw for the unmentionable one (rhymes with Shmoses).
