Anytime the phrase "X's & O's" is used when talking about a coach I immediately disregard everything that person is saying.

It's funny how all of a sudden LSU is supposed to be this top tier basketball team with loads of McDonald's All-Americans on the bench.

Nobody is asking for that and you know it. Competence is what we are asking for from the bench...competence.

If you want to pin THIS loss on the players, I would not argue with you necessarily. However, this type of loss has happened over & over again, all season long. That does fall on Coach Jone's shoulders. As for the lack of depth, it comes down to 2 questions: are the players sitting on the bench all season long simply not good enough for SEC play? Or if they are, why haven't they been coached up to improve? Again, either one falls on Coach Jones's shoulders. As an hypothetical: do you think Coach Bruce Pearl could have recruited as well and coached this team better?

Our guys are always tired and execute poorly late. He never fixed it or adjusted.

If nothing else, those three timeouts CJJ left in his pocket would have given the players a bit of a rest, since we play a six man rotation.

Interesting point. So since coaches don't score they have no responsibility in how a team plays, ever?

Sounds like a great new concept. Player/coaches. Think of the money saved on hiring coaching staffs.

They obviously don't shoot free throws.

I"m so sick of fricking hearing this remark. Do you honestly have any clue as to how much pressure is on those guys when they are standing at the free throw line with the game on the line? You could practice shooting free throws every single day for 5 hours straight and it's not going to change how your body feels and performs in that moment.

It's not about practice; It's more about the ability of calming your nerves and being able to block out everything running rampant in your head than it is about practicing free throws at 2pm on a fricking Tuesday.

Some posters seem to find it easier to recite aphorisms than to assess the evidence.
True, coaches don't shoot free throws, fgs., play defense or get tired.
Coaches are, however, paid to adjust to these circumstances and execute a strategy. In fact, what more does the coach do on the bench, during the game EXCEPT adjust his strategy to those circumstances?
In game after game, the same circumstances arose which cost us games.
Some coaches can be blamed for making the WRONG changes. That would one thing.
This coach seems reluctant to make ANY changes.
why would he expect a different result, except underperformance.

When losses like this happen once in a season, you chalk it up to a fluke or unlucky. When it happens MULTIPLE times a season, it's mostly coaching and a little on the players.

At least next year this shouldn't be a problem.

You could see it in chuck barleys eyes last night at halftime.
I can only imagine what he thought after we lost.

You know, you can say a lot of things about Barkley, but he's brutally honest. He has no dog in the LSU nation, but obviously watched us playing AU. I will trust Chuck's opinion over anyone on this board. I'm sure he noted how the last few seconds transpired in the SEC tourney.

His halftime analysis was so spot on (LSU with all that talent is either in 10th gear, or 1st gear). I guess he was saying in a nice way, that there's more to LSU late game collapses than just the talent - without having to directly call out the coaching. Everyone kind of knew what was coming.

Yes, a completed FT or two, or just ONE FG and we're watching LSU-Villanova, and "all is good". But even a broken clock is right twice a day. There are some serious organizational issues (coaching choices, on and off court leadership) with this program.

In any good organization, most would call it a team effort, win or lose, and coaches are a part of the team.

Yep, didnt see the post game but Chuck said LSU haS a top 10 team talent wise but inconsistent. Said LSU had no business losing to Auburn twice and we would be 1 and done or make the Sweet 16

I agree with your analysis about Barkley - he is usually honest and spot on. But I think it was Kenny Smith who actually said the "10th gear or 1st gear" comment

I think you are correct. I think Chuck repeated it. But I believe he did say that there was no way LSU should have lost to AU twice.

I would sure like to have been a fly on the wall when Chuck and Kenny were discussing this off camera. A transcript of that would surely clear up a lot of stuff with what a lot of the ranters are saying.

Sports teach young people the most important lessons in life, i.e. practice makes perfect and it's not over until it's over. Unfortunately for us the game lasted a second too long last night.

The Tigers let more than one slip away this season and I am bummed out about it but a lesson hopefully was learned that will build their character and prepare them for next year when they represent the tiger nation at the big dance...go Tigers and keep your chin up.

Good luck to NC State going forward in the tournament and good job on not giving up because as we all know...it ain't over until its over.
