Don't forget the great Sid Crocker who did football and basketball games.
He would introduce the basketball band and a group from Hollywood.........and Scenic Highway...
Sid was a really good guy....Did most of the games during Dale Brown era and PA at football before Borne.
orne used to do the news on Channel 2 I believe...

You never realise how bad Hawthorne can be at baseball till you sit at the game listening to him on the radio and how big of a gap there is between reality and the radio.
One night on a weekday game he went into meltdown mode about how Skip had screwed up and we weren't going to have a catcher in the next inning. Like Skip didn't know how to execute a double switch. Next inning he never really brought it up lol.

Let's ignore the fact that about half of Hawthorne's greatest calls were wrong. (They had to dub in Henderson's name post facto for the Music City Miracle.) Put aside the fact that he's whiny, apocalyptic and "woe is us" whenever things go even slightly wrong in a game.
Holy crap...I agree that Jim has messed up every great and historical call...wrong number for amount of runs when Warren Morris hit his homer and Jack Hunt especially...
But how in the hell can you dog the guy and call the Blue Grass Miracle the "Music City Miracle?
Oh, the irony.

Dan Borne sounds like God is talking directly into Tiger Stadium.
Jim Hawthorne has 6 words that I will forever remember him by.

John Ferguson was great.
Definitely was. I miss the old man's radio broadcasts.

Yes. John Ferguson and Sid Crocker!

Actually Sid occasionally did the weather on channel 9. He was also the voice for señor puppet on the Buckskin Bill show.

Also, Siesta Sid (Sid Crocker).

"Swing and a miss! Called strike 3!!"
One of my all time favorites. Yeah sometimes it's hard to figure out what game he's watching, but I always enjoy talking to my old man after the games to discuss JH's mistakes.
I will say this... As many mistakes as he makes, CLM doesn't make his job any easier. Half the time none of us can figure out what the hell he's doing...

You losers need to get off JH dick... The man has made all the great LSU calls that we love the past 25 plus years... And it done with tremendous passion and pride.
I wouldn't trade him for anyone.
This!
Most of the ones bitching probably never even listen to him. They also must NEVER watch major sports and listen to PBP announcers mess up every game.

Dan Borne - a good friend and great stadium announcer. Wrote a GREAT poem.
Jim Hawthorne - great voice, and had some of the greatest calls in LSU history (5 BBall NC, 2 FBall NC and a bunch of hoops Final Fours) Anticipates too much.

I think LSU has some good guys in Jim and Dan. To me an LSU football game just doesn't seem right without em. Did LSU ever have better PA and radio guys like way back in the day?
Are you fricking serious ?

Jim Hawthorne is the ABSOLUTE F*CKING WORST announcer at any level.
He's sucked for 30 years.
When Ferguson retired, he was starting to show his age and longevity. But, on his worst day, Ferguson was 100X's better than Hawthorne on his best day.
Hawthorne should have been fired in 1984.

Sid was also comical in the good sense at times. i enjoyed him as the voice of tiger stadium, and as PA announcer for basketball at the cow palace, and later the assembly center.

How hard was it for Ferguson to say QB X, Y,or Z hands off to RB X, Y, or Z play after play?
