OK you offensive coordinators, what are the positives and negatives of continuing to run the option as part of your offensive scheme.

Is it just to occupy a spot in the play series to set up another play?

Is it in hopes that one day it will really pay off and we will actually convert it in a meaningful way?

When GC goes to the film room, week after week after week, and continues to see how ineffective it is, and then proceeds to continue to run it at critical points in the football game, what is this man thinking?

It lets JJ wear down the D with all the heavy hits?

negatives
1. it never works
2. it doesn't even force the defense to make a tackle, we tackle ourselves by running out of bounds

positives
we don't get tackled by a person

I don't remember it being to effective last night, but I do remember Jefferson running it a little better than he did last year.

This ought to be very entertaining. My take is that he is in way over his head and does not belong in the SEC much less any D1 major school. It is obvious he does not have much of a play book(a couple of pages) and of that is the most basic plain junk. Why he is still here and getting raises is beyond me.

I would also like to know how challenging it is for the O-line to execute. The blocking scheme has to be different and they only run it a handful of times a game. This may also be a reason for its lack of success.

I 100% believe this and it makes me sad. It literally is a wasted play every time. Every fricking time. It's amazing.

It keeps him employed. Boss says run it, he runs it.
Don't you think the head coach is involved in the game planning. Don't they practice a series plays during the week that the staff believes will be successful for the defense they expect to see on Saturday.

It is amazing that JJ does not have the football savy to run the option. It is really embarrassing to see him even attempt it. It appears as he has no idea of the needed spacing, the timing, the angles, just absolutely nothing to do with properly running an option. But, that in a nutshell is his main problem - he has raw talent but no football "savy" to go with it.

Its like having to teach a youngster how to take an angle to a running back so you can tackle him at a contact point - you dont simply run straight at your target. (Some kids actually never grasp this - luke sanders was one). Those things really "cant be taught".

I really dont think JJ has the savy to be a good QB. (but I certainly hope he does).

It is just unconscionable. You watch the option fail over and over again, and you insist that at some point the skies are going to clear and it will suddenly and magically work?

Positive - is that the more JJ runs the option the greater chance of J. Lee getting some playing time.

you run it a couple of times a game just to make your opponent prepare for it

Exactly.

If it ever were to work.... I don't think I will be happy. Because then we will run it that much more

Jordan Jefferson doesnt understand the basic plan of the option. Because he keeps it 80-90 percent of the time and opposing defenses dont respect it.

And when he does pitch it he is 5 feet from the sideline.

The option is an attack play not a passive run to the sideline and out of bounds play.

Jefferson doesnt attack the corner. He doesnt know when to pitch and it coincides with making quick desisions of which he struggles.

Jordan Jefferson has skills that i just dont understand why we dont use better.

Jordan jefferson should be a rollout qb given the option to tuck it.

If we are going to run him put him in situations where it is just a run and he picks up the yards he can get and go back to the huddle. QB draws from the shotgun. Roll Outs.

I dont remember us throwing a crossing pattern or 10 to 15 yard hook or many rb screens out of the backfield.

RB screens are confidence builders to a qb and help get in a rhythem.

I really dont want LSU to run the option. We have 2 and only 2 experienced and capable qb's this year and you are risking getting our current starter hurt.

What ever happenned to a toss quick sweep and flares from the backfield.

Our offense has many weapons and qb is the key to unlocking the door.

Fair criticism. It has rarely if ever produced worthwhile yardage.

It fails because JJ doesn't stay in the lane he is suppose to. He runs wide to avoid contact and then he his right on the running backs hip. The freaking defensive lines to the ball do not change after the pitch because of this... so they have no adjustment to make.
