CPM and his former ND assistant coach now each have one CWS championship. Two questions:
1. Who wins the next one first?
2. Who would you rather have as a coach?

My answer to both is O'Connor.

Sadly, I completely agree.

All cpm defenders will tear you apart but it's obvious other teams are passing us up.

Self-loathing threads are the best.

In typical Rant fashion, only one coach in America is deserving to coach LSU. The one that just won the National Championship. Wait until next season. It will be someone else.

O'Conner would be a great choice to replace Mainieri when he hangs it up. Anybody have any idea as to how much longer Mainieri plans to coach?

Virginia will not win another. He will most likely leave, probably pro.

No self loathing at all. Just looking at his demeanor, how he interacts with his players, and how he won with less talent. Two years in a row in the finals is pretty impressive.

Does this mean you're already counting CPM out for next year?

The excuses PM made recently are funny. Basically threw our whole staff outside of Lange under the bus. Then tried to say stealing so much made us bad at base running. It was typical PM and awesome.

I'd like to see the reaction if CPM had lost more than 20 games before the end of May.

how he won with less talent

UVA was a top 5 team early in the season. They had the record they did and had to fight back because they were decimated by injuries all season. They've been a premier program for awhile now, or did you forget LSU facing UVA in the 2009 CWS. They were in the championship series last season. They've been to the CWS 4 times since 2008. They have plenty of talent.

Yeah. Very talented. 14 draftees last 2 years I think.

Virginia wasn't any good until the tournament this year. Kind of the opposite of us.

This. Absolutely. All the major sports, every year. I can't count how many times LSU fans have drooled over the "flavor of the month" coach while our coaches just keep steadily winning. Meanwhile so many of the coaches that were seemingly the next legend slipped back in the pack.

will never understand why people respond when they clearly have no idea what they're talking about.

there's a 0 percent chance o'connor leaves for the pros. not much higher that he leaves for another program. quick, name the last coach who willingly left charlottesville... not to mention one whose family adores it, is treated like a rockstar, and has gorgeous facilities that are about to be upgraded further.

i'm a huge tiger fan - and WELL aware of the draw that an LSU offer would be - so who knows what might happen if tiger nation comes calling. but he's NOT going to the major leagues, and he's certainly not going to any other university anytime soon.

I just love this notion that a coach in a major power conference that is winning at high level will come running to LSU at the drop of a hat.
