Don’t know the rules on being granted a medical RS. It would be awesome to have him back if possible. Also, any option for a COVID exception giving him another year?

Little known fact, Andre Anthony was in Dinardo's first class with Kevin Faulk and Booger McFarland.

Nope. He medical redshirted in 2017. He actually (regular) redshirted back in 2016. He doesn't have any more eligibility even with the covid year I believe.

I think he actually could petition for another year if the argument is that one of his "playing" years didn't count because of Covid.

I think it has been confirmed that he has exhausted all potential eligibility

Andrew Whitworth is coming back for his Covid year only if he is guaranteed a starting spot!

I don't think this is true.

2016 - Redshirt 0/4
2017 - Injured 1/4
2018 - Played 2/4
2019 - Played 3/4
2020 - Played, didn't count 3/4
2021 - Injured and should qualify for medical RS if he wants it *

* Current medical redshirt rules:
quote:

To qualify for a Division I Medical Hardship Waiver:

- The athlete can’t have participated in more than 30% of the number of games or dates of competition in their sport.
- The athlete also must not appear in a contest after the midpoint of the season.
- The athlete must have contemporaneous documentation from a medical professional that their injury or illness prevents them from being able to continue participating in their season.

In 2021, Andre played in:
- 3/13 games (23%)
- No games after game 3
- Tore his ACL, so documentation should not be a problem

He graduated in August 2020. If he came back he’d be working on his PhD.

You can't be on a football scholarship and drawing social security. It is a little know NCAA rule.

For context, he was in the same recruiting class as Devin White. Probably time for the next chapter in his life

Hey, I think most of us would welcome him back with open arms. He was a leader on the defense this year and I hate that he got injured. However, I can’t imagine it would really benefit him at this point. If he wants to take a shot at the NFL, then he probably needs to focus on getting healthy and moving forward.

The only reason I could see Anthony looking into a medical redshirt for last season would be if rehabbing here with our new S&C team would benefit him in his recovery from injury and prepare him to make a last run at the draft next year. Maybe that makes sense for a guy who would likely be a FA pickup coming off an injury as things stand today.

If so, then he already has another year of eligibility and can come back anyway.

FWIW there is precedent (admittedly prior to the extra COVID year) for the NCAA giving players multiple medical redshirts over the course of their career. Not that I would expect Andre Anthony to be here two more years.

In all honesty, I can't imagine how degree progress would apply for him. He'd have to be on a PHD track or something.

I’d love to have a healthy Anthony next year but he’s probably ready for the next phase of life. He’ll be 26 midway through next season.

Oh wow, thought he had medical redshirted in 2017, but apparently not. Guess that means he technically would be eligible. If he came back, that'd have to be some sort of record. He'd be the Sikes Orvis of LSU Football

Do y’all think his kids are eligible to play yet?
