Pretty sure Pap only had one error all of last year.

ETA: Yup, his field percentage was .997 last year. Try again fricktard.

Coomes is a very athletic catcher with a strong arm and offensively he adds a lot of firepower to the lineup. Pap is a great defensive catcher that has struggled at times with the bat, but hopefully that will improve this year. At the end of the day LSU is in good hands at the catching position.

Pap will be a hard def catcher to unseat. I wish Coomes all the best, hard truth about a power program. All these kids can flat out play, has alot to do with timing. And some players manage the stress better than others. And Catcher & Pitcher are the 2 positions that MLB doesn't care about your offense if you're solid anchor behind the plate. Which IMO Pap is. No discredit to Coomes who will get his time behind the plate to spell Pap down the road no doubt, and look forward to watchin him.
Again....all these kids can flat out play ball or they wouldn't be in the dugout.

Hopefully Coomes will prove to be a good defensive catcher as well.

Good. Pap looks the same imo.

Do some of you really think he's giving Coomes a shot to take over for Pap? He's doing this because Pap cant catch 5 games a week guys. Every catcher needs some rest.

Passed balls don't count as errors.

Be nice if Coomes turns out a bat and decent glove to possibly start on Sundays and Midweek.

Pap is a stupid good defensive catcher, but man that bat is demoralizing when he comes up to the plate. It's still a young season and there isn't alot to go off of but I don't remember him batting great in summer league either.

But defense on those friday/saturday pitching duels will be imperative and unless Coomes has a ridiculous glove and arm, I don't see him moving in unless its on sundays.

He did fine at the end of last year when he focused solely on RH. He went back to switch hitting over the summer and part of the fall. He is now going to stick with only RH. He'll be fine.

Why? Is high school of origin determinative of the LSU Tigers' win percentage?

Last time they were all on the same team they won 5A state championship. Not saying it really means anything but they bring some big bats.

Ya I saw that, honestly if he can hit where he is now (.286) around .275-.280. He'll be good for us.

Under their player profiles its says Coomes was a gold glove catcher at Catholic High BR, and he shared catching duties at LSU Eunice. His high school coach described him as a very athletic catcher with a strong arm! Pap is an amazing catcher and he's fun to watch behind the plate! Hopefully Coomes can learn from Pap!

Exactly Pap's defense is good enough to where batting in the .275 range should keep him in the lineup for most games.

Thanks Ell_13 I actually learned something today...I always thought it was considered an error if runner advanced a base!
