We fired les bc we were tired of 8-4 and wanted to compete for national titles. Three games in and O supporters are already saying 6-6 this year and 8-4 next is sufficient.

We have no chance replacing coach Zero with his buyout. I think we have to give him 3 seasons. Hopefully we aren't ran in the ground when he gets the door.

Some fans want perfection, but most fans want a team that won't lose by 30 to Mississippi St. This was a terrible loss, and one of the worst by the program in two decades (even prior blowouts had better excuses - like Harris making his first start in Auburn).

I don't think we do anyone any favors by pretending this loss isn't awful. It is. We don't need to minimize the loss to also keep a cool head.

Because it does only count as one loss. Saban lost to UAB his first season here, and that hire turned out okay. Teams lose, particularly in transition. Sometimes they lose in humiliating ways. The question is, how do they respond?

It's too early to pack up on the entire Orgeron tenure. Let's at least wait until his second SEC game before getting the tar and feathers. But the issue is how he responds to this setback. And panic helps no one.

But we really aren't that young gramps.

The youth excuse is a BS excuse anyway in today's college football. Freshmen are recruited and expected to play now days.

I heard everyone saying how strong of a team the Vikings were after they beat a bad Saints team and then they got whipped this week by the Steelers.
I'm not saying that State isn't good , but Bama will skull drag them all over the field much the way State did Lsu.

LSU, on the other hand, is rebuilding.

I thought we needed to hire Orgeron for continuity so that we could win the SEC this season?

That was one of the arguments made last year.

November 2016: we need O for stability and to keep our talent: September 2017: the cupboard is barren, wait for O to get his guys. The narrative has already shifted so much for his supporters

what happened at ole miss 10-15 years ago doesn't have dog shite to do with LSU presently.

Unless his LSU teams start to resemble the grease fire he had going in Oxford. One game isn't a reasonable sample but so far so good for those making comparisons to his work at OM

I do basically agree with you, BUT, it's time for Aranda and Canada to earn their multi-million dollar paychecks. Aranda's defense is fast, talented, but thin at certain positions (be nice to get Lawrence back) and relying upon true freshmen a LOT. I would stack the line -- not only pass-blitz, but run-blitz as well. True, that will put pressure on our corners but they're good and can handle it. True, we'll get beat at times but this more aggressive scheme I think is the best that Aranda can do, given the personnel he has available.

Canada needs to put on his thinking cap and think of ways to be more unpredictable (I saw more unpredictability in the first two games than the MSU game.) He has to understand the O-line is average to above-average at best, and, he is going to have to rely upon true freshmen to some extent. Need more shorter passes and screens. I like the up-tempo mindset, and the shifts and motion, and if you want to call that "gimmicky," so be it... bring on the gimmicks. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing what Brennan can do, he has much more arm talent than Etling and maybe could back opposing teams away from stacking the line of scrimmage.

Hired?

They weren't even interviewed.

I think that's what pisses everyone off the most. The fans were told there would be a search. Yet, according to reports, the only coaches we reached out too were Herman and Fisher. So where the frick was the "search"?

This is what frustrates me the most. Not saying Coach O won't right the ship but apparently there was no serious coaching search done. His "hire" was a knee-jerk reaction to being spurned by Herman.

I don't buy too much into the "rebuilding" theme as LSU is consistently in the top of CFB recruiting. Why are we rebuilding? Now QB, yeah, we have struggled there for quite a while and continue to do so.

We simply do not have a QB in Danny Etling that can take us to the promised land. Good kid and good enough player but he will not win the big games or have those career defining drives LSU needs. Look at Texas' true freshman QB Saturday night and ask yourself if Danny Etling could have done what he did in the Coliseum.

Our issue is coaching and it needs to get better or we are in for a long season.

Let's see how this plays out.
We got destroyed on Sat night for Multiple reasons. Our coaches were out-coached and our players were out-played. Shouldn't happen, but it does happen.
Now how do they respond.

Defensively you had the prefect storm. Players trying to overplay instead of being disciplined. Understandable from some young players. We were pushed around inside to a degree, but bad assignment football and poor tackling were the biggest issues. Those issues finally lead to some big plays and a blowout.

Offensively we know the OL is a problem. Really hard to cover for a bad OL. We had some running success. Passing would have been different without the "bad" PI penalty and a few terrible drops. Etling is who we already know he is. He's serviceable, but all those beating at Purdue has him with happy feet. He looks to bail out way too quick. Still if not for the brought back TD, the drops by Chark and Gage, his stat line looks much different and while I still think we lose, I think the game plays out a little different.

This team has 2 weeks to grow up quickly. If not, it will be a rough year.
